It's hard to explain, but there's many different prices of dollars in Argentina.

The two more important ones are the official price (it was USD 1 = 400 ARG a few days ago) and the illegal price (it was USD 1 = 1,000 ARG a few days ago). You can only buy a few official dollars at a time, so most people just buy illegal dollars. Others buy official dollars and then sell them illegally for an easy 2x.

Milei made the official price of the dollar similar to the illegal one. The actual price of the dollar that everyone uses (the illegal one) actually went down.
