Most of the basic features are in coreutils or particular projects with very few dependencies like wpa supplicant.

The situation is much better than Windows because the distro maintainers do watch the upstream projects. Windows will grab eg drivers straight from manufactures pretty much no questions asked and you end up with malware this way all the time.

If you have 50 or more transitive dependencies for something your installing you should look into alternatives. Most good software only needs a few at most.

$14-15 seems to be the pin. Maybe $16 max. I just rolled some $16.5 CCs for next week at 65 cents a contract. 4% return for an OTM call for a week is not a bad profit in my eyes. Not a lifechanging payout, but its honest work.

Solar panels and batteries really aren't that expensive. The only things that really draw a ton of power are AC/heat pumps, electric water heaters, and wells.
I have a 1kw set up and can run toasters, a refrigerator, and a computer off it. It cost me like $2-3k or so (I don't remember exactly) for all the parts.

So yeah, you can actually go somewhere else. The issue is probably mostly the push for electric cars and heat pumps.
