You may think it's an easy way to steal other people's money until you realize it's mathematically impossible to find a wallet with funds in it. After some number of blocks which averages to about 500 days inactive wallets can have balances claimed using software that is essentially a block explorer but can retrieve balances from orphaned blocks. It's highly unlikely to find one by chance since even if the balance is inactive it also has to have been mined into an orphaned block where latency caused 51% of the miners to validate two blocks at once. The hash algorithm fixes this problem within seconds but the bitcoin sits in the orphaned block until it gets sent in a transaction or eventually is claimed. Thats why most people can't recover their lost btc because it wasn't trapped in one of these latency blocks.

i put together a blockchain crawler that looks at orphaned blocks transacted >500 days ago. sometimes the wallet that transacted in an orphaned block will have rejected a transaction and the amount that was meant to be transferred is considered unclaimed. you can do it manually by looking at blocks in an explorer and verifying whether there is unclaimed btc (or eth or whatever else) in it.

understandably i can't really tell you much more than this because the number of people that actually know how to get hold of unclaimed coins is inversely proportional to my livelihood here, i can't give away all the secrets.
