If you could make $100k passively vs $250k at a 9-5, which would you choose? And how would you invest the money?

100k passive, no question. I would invest in a house and chainlink. Which is basically already my situation

all in index funds, etfs, reits, and a tad bit in crypto and private eqiuty

...from you; who's to say that, a year after settling into a busy city with my $100k/y passive income, I can't apply for a job at a top tier firm? I'd be doing that on my own (although my modest $100k/y affords me enough luxury latitude for an edge rubbing elbows with the big dogs).

my annual expenses are only about 30k and a supremely conservative estimate for the CAGR of my investment portfolio would be 8%
which means i'm banking 220k in year one and earning 17,6 on it over the 2nd year while banking a second 220k, etc. so you're looking at reaching 100k passive in about five years with that estimate.
the actual CAGR i've printed is 12% but my income isn't that high. it doesn't need to be. just cut your expenses.

because i'm not a retard.
30k in expenses out of 100k and the 30k will necessarily grow over time, but the remaining 70k barely grows.
my job is easy, working is rewarding, and incidentally if no one works then there is no passive income.
only losers put themselves on de facto welfare. in reality, they quickly burn through all their passive income by eating into the principal, and go right back to being poor.
it's the wrong answer because it's the wrong attitude.
