my parents rent a shabby apartment for very affordable rates, approximately half of what is being asked for in comparable situations in this town
because the building is so dilapidated my father in constantly repairing things, reminding tenants for late rent and looking for contractors that won't charge an arm and a leg
it's a full time job for him and because he takes it in he is able to offering housing for a few people who are too cheap to pay more
but he's going to sell that damned building soon and those people will be fucked because the new owners will either demolish or raise the rent egregiously
anyway, not all land lords are bad
necessary evil at worst

To be completely honest they do. Im not talking about people who have one or two properties. Im talking like people who have thousands of acres of land they don't actively use in any meaningful way. No, going there on vacation once a year while you pay thousands for maintenance isn't using it. Imagine the amount of housing we could provide if 1% of the population didn't own like 80% of the usable land. While most people on biz want to make it and have money (i know i am with my $s o y stacks) im completely sure most people here know the downsides of landlords and want to eradicate them.

Its obvious no one in this thread has ever owned a home. Do you think landlords just buy a house and then jerk off to hentai all day? I bought a shit hole place, fixed it up, furnished it, rented it out. I handle everything. Water heaters, smoke detectors, roofs, leaky pipes, lawn, all of it. If I can't fix it I hire the guy who can. If it costs more than I will make in rent that year, that's my problem. Tenant's rent is locked in for the duration of lease. I took the worst house on the street and made it one of the nicest. The neighbors love that I made their street nicer (and property values higher). The city loves that I pay more in property tax now that my property is looking good, and my tenants appreciate that they don't have to worry what its going to cost when the water heater reaches in the end of its life or the dryer breaks.

Nobody gives a fuck about you low rung suburb fags renting out your dusty attic to uni students you goof bag. Criticism of landlords is pointed towards corporate real estate moguls and asset management kikes like Blackrock and Vanguard who are directly responsible for annihilating housing inventory and driving cost of living inflation to ridiculous levels everywhere. Not to mention being the people behind ESG scores which finance cultural marxism and tell virtually every company in the world right now how to culturally navigate their businesses. You entry level fags renting basements out need to stop getting your panties in a bunch. Conversations on "landlords" don't concern you, you're not even a blip on the radar to the big players

They either bought it or got it from an ancestor who bought it. The money used to buy the home was usually obtained through work.

True in England when Smith wrote this and owning land had mostly to do with nobility, ie having an hereditary government job that involved possession of the land.

Hardly comparable to someone investing 200k into a flat after making money on crypto

In another thread anon mentioned that "left hates profit" or something alike.

I don't agree with it. Profit is value extraction. It's a shady concept in itself. I don't get why investors are paid 5-10% in financial markets mostly out of thin air. You don't put any work in* and you reap the benefits. Why is that not evil ?

In a political climate where the money supply isn't inflated, real estate does not by itself appreciate. It's not the fault of real estate holders that the real estate is inflating, it's because the government is inflating, and because the government is importing immigrants.

Ironically, property tax got introduced to "fight" the "evil landlords and their exorbitant profits" which are ironically the product of government inflating the currency, forcing people to park their cash into limited assets (cement is harder to print than cash).

So now the fact that there had already been some currency manipulation by the government gave the government the justification to impose a new tax on the virtual profits created by government policies, and now there are more reasons to further inflate the RE prices because they are a job more so than before when there was no yearly racket called the property tax.

This entire story is endless layers and levels of manipulation and fraud, and 100% of it is carried out by the government. The landlord is just your peer who is one step before you in terms of who gets decapitated first by the government, and whoever hates landlords is simply too retarded to see it. What the west lives in right now is completely a communist dystopia. Everything is owned by the government, compromised by the government and whatever solution the government offers will both get a massive public approval and will also exacerbate the problems, and move them even further away from being solved. You communists brought this upon yourselves when you gave voting powers to a certain group.

>> No.56772237

It's because the government inflates the currency 5-10% in order to finance free shit for each of the infinite number of little groups, such as pensioners, disableds, women and children, less so than employed racial minorities, and now the transgender mentally ill. Funny how you don't see the fact that this money is extracted from all value holders, and has the direct effect of inflating the cost of all assets which is carried out by anyone even remotely intelligent, due to the fact that if you don't park your cash into assets, you lose 5-10% of its value per year due to the government's currency manipulation.

The landlords doesn't care how much money the goverment prints his property value will go up in value accordingly and he can charge bigger rent accordingly. I see him only winning in any way.

I see the fact, I know people who own shit and have evaporating debt happy about it. I just don't know why the loosing side is just laying there getting the beating. I.e. made few threads about money printers going brrrr got 5 replies everytime and the threads was closed after 5mins.
