Here's something I observed recently at my local coin shop. A guy came in with a 1oz gold coin and wanted to sell it. The store owner examined the coin and told the guy that he'd only give spot price for it ($1,970, as of a few days ago) because the coin was scratched up. He noted that the gold coin would be melted down.

I think you're only ever going to get spot price for worn/damaged coins. You aren't going to get a premium unless the coin is pristine. So long as you're cherrypicking good looking junk silver, you might be okay. Keep the quality of your coins in mind as they do influence the selling price.

If you live in a rural area you might still need to pick it up somewhere, but most likely if they can't deliver to your house they'll deliver it to a local bank.

I regularly get delivery from USPS and sometimes fedex, but I don't send out orders over a grand without insurance and signature required.

Interestingly none of the delivery services in the US will insure coins in their own care. You have to buy outside insurance. This is something most people don't know, but your LCS and bullion dealers know it. We buy private insurance because USPS and UPS and fedex have all been sued so many times they won't even ship coins or bullion if they know what you're sending.

In the event i get to separate them tho, the Ecu is done for, since she serve as base where all the others coins are attached to.

That's approx 180gr of silver from the coins, then few extra grams from the solders and tiny silver patches here and there to make it a sealed item. I remember paying spot value of FS for it, so around 115€. I'm not in a hurry to sell it because it's quite the fondle piece lol, but the day i want to do so, i don't believe there isn't a world where some collectors wouldn't be interested in, considering how popular pieces of 8 are.
