Here's something I observed recently at my local coin shop. A guy came in with a 1oz gold coin and wanted to sell it. The store owner examined the coin and told the guy that he'd only give spot price for it ($1,970, as of a few days ago) because the coin was scratched up. He noted that the gold coin would be melted down.

I think you're only ever going to get spot price for worn/damaged coins. You aren't going to get a premium unless the coin is pristine. So long as you're cherrypicking good looking junk silver, you might be okay. Keep the quality of your coins in mind as they do influence the selling price.

Anyone who says they made money on silver is lying. No exceptions. Unless they are MintScamAnon. No exceptions. Scrapanon buying "sterling" forks and paying $60 shipping? Code for fake shit you don’t understand and losing money. Bob buying Chinese made counterfeit Spanish dobloon ashtrays? Dementia. Incels tell you they find a silver dime in the sewer it’s some girl shit, Dad went out for cigarettes fifteen years back.

It’s dead money....,.., no interest, no dividends.....,...no appreciation.

The money you invest is the exact amount you’ll have, minus 80%. The rest, they will suck out of you on premiums, inflation and shipping. Stocks go up. Taxes go up. A new tax, some environmentally friendly waste disposal fee– to create recycled shit you can pay for again. All of it for them. Every extra penny you spend on silver....gone. You can’t get out of it. No more than the deer escapes the wolf. Unless you don’t work. And the only way to not work is by not buying silver.

that bar comes hand delivered from an armored vehicle and you have to sign and show ID to receive it.

The feds will be notified that you bought it but for all they know you lost it in a tragic metal-eating-elephant accident 2 minutes after you got it. They don't track what you do with it aside from the purchase and the sale. And if you made your money legitimately, they don't even care about that. It's just when broke people with no jobs suddenly start buying kilos of gold that they sit up and pay attention.

I regularly get delivery from USPS and sometimes fedex, but I don't send out orders over a grand without insurance and signature required.

Interestingly none of the delivery services in the US will insure coins in their own care. You have to buy outside insurance. This is something most people don't know, but your LCS and bullion dealers know it. this is important

I can store $10k in coins and lose $50k on storage and office expenses.

which means $20k off my taxes

for $10k in silver or gold I can get $20k off my taxes

literally free money
this is how rich people get rich
this is how rich people stay rich

not by just making money, but also by maximizing losses against taxes. Stupid easy stuff. And this is the biggest clue IQ is a poorfag. He can't imagine being rich and losing money on purpose. Or losing money to make more.
Poor person thinking.

Lose money on silver or gold. Write it off x4 on your taxes. Congratulations, you made money and still stacked silver or gold.

>> No.56760363

>>56760336
>Lose money on silver or gold. Write it off x4 on your taxes. Congratulations, you made money and still stacked silver or gold.
this is ultimately how you stack silver and gold for FREE

run a business that makes money. Lose that money stacking silver and gold. Losses go into your stack instead of to the tax man. Your stack grows, you never pay taxes, and you never show a profit

this is what businesses do. We don't make money. We try to lose money. But we increase equity without paying taxes on it. Houses or backhoes or goodwill or silver, it's all the same. Stack wealth, show a loss, make equity, pay no taxes.

you're not even paying for the loss, the business is.

>> No.56760394

>>56760363
>you're not even paying for the loss, the business is.
this is how you make millions. Or billions.

stop treating it as "your profits" or "your losses" and understand it's the business's losses or profits. Try to keep assets in the business and out of the hands of the tax guy

Then you can lose money all day every day and still make millions, eh Jeff? Because even if you lose money you still have millions or billions in assets and market share.

it's stupid. But IQ doesn't get it. Most of /biz/ doesn't get it. They get hung up on making money when they really just need to churn cash. The more cash I churn the more silver and gold I can stack, for free, without taxes.

I still didn't completely lose hope of eventually figuring out a way to get back the coins, especially because one of the piece of 8 is a rare version/date worth a big chunk of $$, and i'd be butthurt not finding a way to add her to my collection, but without the knowledge nor the tools it's tricky for me.

Or simply sell it back as such? for reference the ashtray is made from x5 spanish/mexican/peruvian mints pieces of 8, x1 4 Reales Carlos IV from Sevilla's mint iirc, and x1 french Louis XV's Ecu. About half the coins have various countermarks from chineses and japs trading posts, so they went on long trips. In the event i get to separate them tho, the Ecu is done for, since she serve as base where all the others coins are attached to.

That's approx 180gr of silver from the coins, then few extra grams from the solders and tiny silver patches here and there to make it a sealed item. I remember paying spot value of FS for it, so around 115€. I'm not in a hurry to sell it because it's quite the fondle piece lol, but the day i want to do so, i don't believe there isn't a world where some collectors wouldn't be interested in, considering how popular pieces of 8 are.

Possible, you never disclosed your age after all. But i imagine you are a gen X, in your mid 50? Which is still pretty young by today's standards. But last time you were talking like a wise elder with almost a foot in the grave ready to receive the last sacraments, you rascal kek.

>If you were born in my shoes you'd have beat me.
That's kind of you but i assure that wouldn't be the case. In truth i'm not far from being a drooling retard, and each passing year i feel dumber, probably from the lack of mental stimulation/exercising. And beyond the mental ability, it's my lack of ambition and long term determination who always have been my biggest handicap, even before my broken body. I don't think i've always been this way, but life teached me to not go out of my lane, at first i fought it with a burning passion, but as anything burning too brightly, it also consume itself too fast, and after few defeats i complied in a way. In that i abandoned the idea of making my dreams a reality. Not totally tho, i've been my own boss for a long time already since i just can't get along with authority, i just can't bow down and suck dicks to build a career. That's the one thing i'm too repulsed with. I need to feel in charge of my destiny, even if it's a pathetic nothingburger destiny nobody will ever care about.

I know they did

those ashtrays are copied by the chinks because they were a real thing. Rich people in mexico and central america made them to show off wealth

your mistake is seeing the fakes and believing the real thing can't exist. I've seen millions of chinese fake coins but I know the real things still exist

and I can tell the difference. So can frogbro.

chopmarks are one indication, but so is the simple appearance of the coin. His coins appear real. Your appear fake.

I feel you bro. You would move with your current wife + 2 last kids i presume?
Rooting them out from where they grew up since forever can be a tricky move, especially if they are in their teen years, with an already built social circle, and you drop them in a foreign country with a different language. They risk to not understand your point of view and become most hostile toward you.
Or they will love it and integrate rapidly, who knows. You need to weight in the risk/reward, but with a few millions there are countless places where you'd live like a king. Not sure western Europe would be the go-to choice, if you don't account for social security/advantages, everything is basically more expensive than in the US, with much lower wages too, which in turn push people to stay in front of their TV during their free time because they can't afford anything else.
And it's a dying continent where nothing can emerge because of big gov became so enormous they basically stifled any kind of innovation due to over-regulating everything. We are in a kind of decaying stasis. It's very grim to witness on a day to day basis.

Did you consider south America? From what i get the strong USD makes it pretty cheap to live down there, the population is young and regulations still not as smothering as in white countries.

and yes, I am insufferable. Because I don't play along with your pretend world where silver saves you. That doesn't mean you're wrong. You guys are often right. But you misunderstand some things.

it don't matter, if you don't know the difference between an owned lambo and a rented lambo you're going to be impressed by anyone driving a lambo.

gold chains seem like a good idea until confronted with the fact that you can get killed for them in many parts of the world. I have about a dozen but I only wear a thin one when I'm out in the world running errands. heavy stuff I can only wear in special occasions when there is proper security.

watches worry me less because half the time nobody knows the value of your watch and if its not a rolex or something blinged out you can be wearing something that robbers don't even notice.
