Why are Samsonite travel bags and suitcases so much more expensive than their competitors? Is the build quality really that much better or is it just brand recognition?

>> No.56756265

Mostly brand recognition at this point.. Tumi use to have a great warranty but now it's basically just a marked up Samsonite that's a touch nicer. Briggs and Riley still does lifetime warranty if you literally live on the road and need a tank low key.. rimowa aluminum ones are kinda heavy imo and only made sense back day when 32kg was standard allowance.

O my bad you were asking about samsonite itself. I wouldn't say they are bullet proof or the best, but will probably pay for itself vs a generic one you get at Marshalls or something and it's not flashy enough that someone will try to to steal. You also paying for knowing it won't fly open. Having some higher end bag usually like wearing a suit entering a building, you probably will be bothered less. Considering the cost of travel and everything it's not that expensive.

what if i told you that consumer tests have been done already? samsonite suitcases fair good at those tests. many cheap suitcases are shit but some of them also fair good, you just have to find a trustworthy testing org. the good thing with samsonite is their 10 years warranty, if it breaks they replace it.

> go to TJ Max or whatever the other sister store is
> get these for 30% of the price

It's the only way. I tried to get a travel bag from the mall / online and had to walk out after seeing the price. Wasn't even embarrassed about it - you seriously need to be making $300,000 to get these at full price unless you literally fly around nonstop. Keep in mind that they will absolutely be thrown around at the airport.

They are probably more durable, but you won't know unless you go for the absolutely cheap shit (not mid, cheap) or fly a ton.

>> No.56756605

in many of those consumer tests, what you discover is that some of the cheapest items (not only suitcases but in general) can also be better than the most expensive ones. some cheap brand 4x less expensive than a samsonite faired better in one of those test.

Get a Rimowa in Europe. The Rimowa classic aluminum is the most beautiful of all, I recommend it, but as the other anon said, many shitty small airlines will not let you bring it on because of constant weight reduction policies. Their plastic salsa is the next best option.

I have to disagree with you there - if you have things you don't want to break / wrinkle, you need a proper luggage bag. Ib4 you ranger-roll everything.

It's worth paying a premium for truly nigger-proof luggage that niggers cannot break into. Remember those Samsonite commercials with the gorillas trying but failing to break them open? Yeah, they were basically saying:

>samsonite
>luggage so niggerproof not even gorillas can get into it

I'm not buying these cheaply made Vietnamese or CHink plastic shells for $700.

You niggers have got to be fucking kidding me. This garbage is worth maybe $30 all in, out the factory door.
