id start with lead, pewter or pure tin if you can find it. they all melt at around 500 degrees F

aluminum is easy to melt at around 1100 and easy to source but it is a but weird to pour. copper melts at 1900 degrees but is easy to pour with less inclusions

All things that I value highly as well, though I do enjoy smol bronze coins too, especially the more rare and high-grade examples others overlook.

That's basically how I started too, though in my search for ancient artifacts I was exposed to lots of ancient coins too and developed a little second-hand familiarity before I decided to dive in. The coin in your pic here is a Hemidrachm of Thracian Chersonesos, a very common coin type with hundreds of varieties, examples are very affordable but you must also beware of fakes which are very plentiful.

I've never spent over $300 on a single coin so you definitely don't need to be rich to collect some cool stuff, and many of my best and most valuable coins were obtained for under $100 because if you know more than the seller and they are selling improperly identified coins, the people specifically looking for those coins won't see them and you can slurp up awesome bargains. 99% of the time the people thinking they got a good deal are just noobs buying fakes, but keep in mind that every coin dealer on earth is in business because they can leverage their knowledge and buy diamonds in the rough low which they can then identify and advertise properly to sell high, so if you're sufficiently educated you can do it too.

In the US when a person dies, anyone inheriting the decedent's assets can be subject to two types of estate tax (federal and state) and/or an inheritance tax. There is no federal inheritance tax. Six states collect inheritance tax: IA, KY, MD, NE, NJ, and PA. The minimum amount subject to a federal estate tax is more than USD 11 million. Many states collect estate taxes, and they all have different minimums before being taxed on what's over that, but even in states where they're collected, the minimum is USD 1 million - sometimes much more. Check it out for your state. And don't forget - what's disbursed can be split among many heirs, each subject to the same limits for what they get in their state. Rates for estate taxes in states where they're collected range from 7.8 to 20 percent. Rates change over time to accommodate inflation (pic related).

Some things to consider:
- Wooden cigar boxes. A liquor/smoke store may sell empty cigar boxes for dirt cheap - a buck or two. Problem: they're made of cardboard or very thin wood - cigars aren't very dense/massive. Keep these boxes small so they don't break.

If the silver is 'naked' and you want to minimize toning, anti-tarnish felt sheets impregnated with a sulfur-absorbing compound is sold by the yard, and it pads the interior. One yard has enough material to line several boxes.
