wouldnt all dividend kings also be dividend aristocrats, what a fucking stupid venn diagram

>> No.56640041

That diagram makes no sense, the kings are a subset of aristocrats by definition. Why are some in the overlap and some not aristocrats?

Also dividends are irrelevant unless you have a particular tax advantage for them, cope and seethe.

Even better are highly liquid assets (like any large cap stock) that you can sell in a second - you can also get exactly the money you need that way which is likely to reduce your taxes.

Hey /div/! Good morning! I've got a quick story for you:
>last night
>friend wants to go to a casino for his batchelor party
>I go along and casino gives me $50 free play
>win $1500
>call it a night

I'm putting $500 into some work that needs to be done on my house. But that leaves $1k. My current brokerage portfolio is mostly SCHD with about equal parts DGRO and O.

Where should I put the $1k? I was thinking I'd just put it into one of the funds I have in the portfolio already, but maybe I should do something different with it.

Thoughts?

Don't feed the troll.

Seriously, he's a single autist that shows up every thread. All his talking points have been repeatedly debunked. And he's demonstrated that he has no idea how dividends work.

For whatever reason, we're living rent free in his head and he shows up every single /div/ to screech about /div/ killing a crypto thread.

But what do you do when you don't wan't to worry about having to sell stock for income? The thing you "dividends are irrelevent" guys don't seem to understand is that we like dividends because it only takes one action to get income. No further action needed. Just money on set dates. I don't care what I pay now, Only care that in 15 years I make enough income from dividends to not have to work anymore untill I die.

Growth, preferably tax sheltered or mostly tax sheltered. If I did something that had a high yield like JEPQ I'd probably reinvest the dividends anyhow.

I'd go with O or JEPQ in that case I like the idea of monthly payments because you have yield to reinvest on a regular basis. 1500 in O is an extra 7,50 a month that you can use to reinvest and putting g it in JEPQ is an exta 12 to reinvest each month. Maybe split it 750 in O and 750 in JEPQ.

Are prison reits like geo likely to bounce back and pay dividends again in the future? Michael burry was looking into them a year ago and there is a tiny subreddit with pre gme wsb type dd around geo. What about other companies that dropped dividends years ago, would they pay again later if they start looking good?

>> No.56643942

Time to BTFO this general once again:

Dividends are irrelevant:
Above is the original paper, and below is a summary that is likely more your speed:
Here's a good video explaining the concept as well:
>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5j9v9dfinQ [Embed]

Rather than relying on something irrelevant like dividends, if you really must use some generic factor criteria to drive longterm investment decisions. I'd recommend you consider the Fama-French 5 factor model:

Once adjusting for other factors, dividends become entirely irrelevant as a predictor of future stock returns:
>In this study, the dividend yield factor has been shown to actually detract from portfolio performance.
And one final video, pointing out the drawbacks of restricting investment options based on some arbitrary irrelevant criteria:
>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4iNOtVtNKuU [Embed]

Hope this helps you see the light.

Depends on what your goals are. If you just want the largest possible net worth go growth stocks. If you want to build a reliable flow of passive income go heavier on the dividend stocks.

>> No.56644054

>>56644024
Makes sense. So perhaps I should buy enough divi stocks to generate a baseline value of passive income, then all excess capital should be allocated to growth funds. Sounds reasonable. Do dividend yields change quickly over time or are they roughly constant?

I do all divvys in my Roth. This will be my second year and I’ll max $7000 next year. The rest I put to a taxable account with 100% VOO. Maybe I’ll do 4% withdrawal rate on that when I can retire and then when I’m 59 1/2 years old my dividends from my Roth will supplement me. Or I’ll let the VOO grow until I can turn it all into blue chip divvys
