That is a typical hollow sterling handle with stainless blade cake knife. What you probably want is either a big long solid sterling fish serving knife, or an ice cream knife, search around and look at some examples to see if they'll work for you. They are available, but those big solid knives are scarce enough that finding a good deal would likely take some time. The closest thing I have is this solid fish knife.

Nice, Do I recall correctly that you bought a big set in that pattern from a 2nd-hand or antique shop while they were having a 20% off sale some time ago? How many total Royal Danish pieces will you have when the new purchase arrives?

Since they kinda fell out of fashion and were no longer being produced regularly by the 1890s I don't think you'll find solid ice cream or fish serving knives in your pattern unless they were essentially unique custom jobs. Might be something you could try making if you're handy and have some appropriate equipment though.

In the US we pay income tax (0-35%) and traders I believe also can get hit with FICA (15%)

so if you're in a top bracket you're at 35% income tax plus 15% FICA for a total of 50%

this is the normal tax rate on business income in the US.

traders likely can lower a portion of that income down to cap gains and skip FICA though. How much they can do that depends on what they're trading, and how often.

>> No.56635057

That is not how income tax works in the US?

wagies don't really notice the FICA because their employer pays half of it, and the other half is deducted from the paycheck directly.

so they never see that money and don't realize they're paying it. So e.g., a wagie paying 35% income tax is effectively paying 50%

also of course that's just for the federal taxes. We also usually have state taxes as well. Many americans are likely paying far more than half of their earnings to taxes. Though people with that kind of tax burden are also really good at finding ways to legally avoid tax.

>> No.56635093

>all your income is not taxed at that same rate.
true on the first about $75k for income, and false on the first $120k for FICA

FICA is a flat tax up to a certain amount

income tax is a progressive tax up to a certain amount.

if you hit the sweet spot where the two overlap, you get fucked. And most high earners in the US hit that sweet spot.

>> No.56635166

Maybe you can give some actual numbers as examples because everything I am seeing doesn't match up with the %s you are saying. I am not a high earner, my effective tax rate is about 24% including FICA. Just using sources I have with a 1mil income is 36% including FICA.

>> No.56635201

>my effective tax rate is about 24% including FICA.
I'm counting your employer's contribution to FICA as coming from you. Because effectively it does. It's your work paying your employer's share, we don't pay that out of our pocket. We pay that out of our profits, but if we didn't pay it we'd still make the same profits because we'd have to either raise your wages or lower our prices, or both.

>> No.56635217

also if FICA cuts off at $120k, you can reduce your rate by making a lot more than that.

so a milionaire should have a lower effective tax rate on a million in income than someone making, say $200k. Because FICA on a million dollars is the same amount as FICA on $200k, it's just a much smaller percentage.

at those two points the tax rate on income is 100%. If you think a 50% tax rate is outrageous you haven't had income from self-employment before.

and yeah, a lot of trading income isn't income at all. But a lot of it is.

>> No.56635303

I am still not getting how someone pays 50% federal income tax in the US, even with your explanation of counting employer contributions. Maybe we have a different definition of high earner and that is causing the confusion. I don't consider anyone around 120k a high earner, so if the FICA rate is decreasing above that, it just seems to contradict your point because without being in the two highest income brackets your tax rate is not going to get close to 50% even with state taxes. That is not just a market fluctuation. That is the ACTUALIZATION that every single hour of labor you ever expended for resources was a bogus transaction.
The banks were having problems so your literally SAVINGS we devalued by 70% overnight.
The banking crisis is going to be resolved the exact same way: Thank you for toiling and saving and investing. But we can only repay your cash at 50% of what you put it.
That's right!
Not only were we all taxed to shit. But everything we were allowed to keep will be revalued in terms of "dollars".
The banks know they can't pull this little "switcheroo" off either without getting destroyed by the political turmoil. Americans work too hard for Wallstreet to not live up to their role in keeping us all fat and happy in our retirement. Unfortunately people know what is going on. They have no elbow-room act with impunity like they did in the 30s.

They've even started making multiple threads to disrupt /pmg/ cos they couldn't use arguments and were unable to make the threads unbearable (despite a lot of effort on their part).
The only conclusion that can be drawn is that we are over the target.

I have a bunch of old cards I would GLADLY sell if I could liquidate anywhere close to the "official" price.
Mtg seems to be alive and well as a franchise, but I think the game is basically running on fumes. It's getting too complicated and power-creep is out of control. I actually can't even be bothered to read the cards nowadays, and even old formats are less appealing with all of the commander-based cards.

The silver stacker, the hoarder of worthless millenial rocks, is a lowly creature, no more powerful than an amoeba, oppressed by the elite, held down by the man, but despite being powerless, they/them feel the need to resist, to fight back against their masters, to fight the bondage. Knowing this instinct the master devised one simple trick. Convince the serfs to happily give their owner all their resources in exchange for shiny rocks with the (laughable) belief these magic beans will destroy the system, will set them free, that they will emerge from the wagie cage winners for once in their miserable lives.

a fair number of assay shops located at individual large mines. They're rare finds, but I've seen a few that people have found.

those guys were cranking out hundreds of standard tons of silver per day, so a pound or two here or there didn't matter much to them. I have another smaller one somewhere that's almost half gold. A couple ounces of electrum. I'll see if I can dig it out. I still need to find the several pounds of silver splatter I have sitting around somewhere. It wasn't where I thought it was.

Imagining it's the vast majority of adults in western countries truly is mindboggling. Even the poorest jeets in the dirtiest, shit-encrusted streets of Calcutta have enough agency to own at least few grams of the stuff...
People here grew too accustomed to living standards we can not longer sustain (or our elites no longer want us to enjoy). The wake up call is gonna be pretty brutal, and for many it's already there.

One number : by the 10th of the month (we are paid the first days of each month here), in average there is only 94€ remaining on the bank account of frogs.
This is how incredibly poor we have become lately.

Really makes me want to live on top of an abandonned mine too kek.

Fun fact i learned not long ago : i don't live far from the oldest silver mine open to the public (a tiny portion only) in the world!

It was a mine exploited between the VII-IXth century, mainly under Charlemagne ruling.
There are 30km of galeries, which i find pretty insane considering how they were working, basically burning the galena with vertical wood faggots set ablaze for hours to scrap the rocky surface, since no tools back then were resistant enough to deal with the rocks. And zero ventilation but few chimneys. Must have been a true inferno to work within.

The fun thing is they didn't stop to exploit it because they couldn't find any more silver, but because they cut down all the trees within a 50km girth to burn down the rock and progress underground kek!
Considering the mines weren't very productive to begin with (4 tons of silver per year at best, 1 to 3gr per kilo of galena they could bring to the surface), it wasn't worth it to double the pain by being forced to also import the wood.

>> No.56638753

that's awesome!

fire setting is one of the oldest mining techniques around. Pliny the Elder mentioned it, and it was indeed very likely invented in France. That's some great mining history!

we had the opposite problem, the ore was so rich and full of sulfur that if the mines caught fire the rock itself would burn for years. They had to be very careful not to set the pyrites and galena on fire. You'd kill off a hundred workers before anyone even knew what had happened.
