>This research asked if intelligence impacts personal finances. The results confirm other researchers' findings that IQ test scores and income are related. Depending on the method of analysis used and specific factors held constant, each point increase in IQ test scores is associated with $202 to $616 more income per year. This means the average income difference between a person with an IQ score in the normal range (100) and someone in the top 2% of society (130) is currently between $6000 and

The results that track the relationship between IQ test
scores and financial distress present a mixed picture
since the chance of not paying bills, going bankrupt or
reaching credit card limits is not associated with IQ
scores linearly. This means higher IQ test scores do not
always lower the probability of being in financial
difficulty. Financial distress is least for people with an
IQ score slightly higher than average (100). Among
those in the lower and upper portion of the IQ test score
distribution, a higher IQ score increases distress.

>tfw was always considered "the smart kid" through most of school
>always top of the class
>teachers would talk to parents and say things like "gifted" and "talented"
>parents would say that I had the potential to do anything I wanted
>got to about 14/15 and then boom, suddenly it was like everyone else had caught up and I was no longer the smart kid
>didn't really have to study to get good grades but could no longer 100% an exam without effort
>graduated high school with a rank well into the top 10% but not good enough for medicine or law
>now have a relatively stable government job with pay in low 100s but am nowhere near as successful as I was led to believe I could have been
Does anyone else know this feel?

I tried starting an engineering degree at the beginning of this year part time and was going to try and work it around the schedule of my job. Man, the introductory mathematics just about broke me, I was extremely out of my depth and couldn't remember half the shit that I should have been able to recall from Year 12. Ended up swiftly dropping it due to a number of factors but in all honesty the fear of not being able to keep up weighed on my mind a lot. It's bizarre because I've had my IQ formally tested and came out to 133 so I should be somewhat intelligent (probably below average for /biz/) but holy shit mates I actually feel like a straight up fucking dumbass these days.

I can rewrite this many times to try and capture, in so many words, the reason why this happens so often to 'gifted kids'. I can no longer do so because I'm becoming increasingly dull... but their struggle forced them into routine, and taught them discipline through time spent studying and retention of information by repetition. What drive, if not external, was there for a young mind to become greater than what they were capable of at that age? In hindsight I missed a period of crucial growth because I took for granted an ability that should propel me to a higher standard of living, but didn't, because I 'coasted' and failed to learn determination through near-failure.

>tfw too smart to be rich

Finance is lottery, if you have information about the process of money making your decisions will become more complex and influenced by uncessary knowledge. Dumb people don't think too much, that's why they can invest and win unaware of the due risks.
