My dad died in February. I inherited about 10k in cash, an old truck, and about 3k in guns. It was painful losing a loved one and painful seeing how little he had. Put it in a tax efficient wrapper (not sure if the US has anything like an ISA), at the moment there are a shitload of zero risk 4-6% accounts you can get. Just make sure to split it up so that you don't have any unprotected funds if a bank collapses.

If you're retiring long term, putting half of it into a dividend paying tracker ETF will probably also be fruitful. Live off the interest, if your savings are inflation beating, you can also bump up the amount each year.

Wow lucky man. I had no inheritance, but threw all I could from my early engineering career at ETH at the same price range. ~$80k. I had a similar investment thesis; i have a tech background though.
