I'd like to share some of our family traditions with you guys, that you might incorporate some of our ancient European rituals into your yearly celebration. My Wife's Grandfather and my Grandfather are both full blooded Irishmen.

And for our ancestors we have our children paint the Irish Surnames of their grandfathers and paint vibrant colors, so that our ancestors may be acknowledged for the fruits of our collective labor. (these are placed in a big pile in front of our home).

To exploit the material and spiritual veil we engage in fortune telling by baking Barmbrack (Traditional Irish Raisin bread) and fill them with varying tokens a silver coin for fortune, a ring for love, a single hard green pea for comfort, black eyed pea for luck).

on Warmer Samheins we kindle our own fires, carry a flame from them, quench them, and unite in a larger fire. It symbolizes our unity and also serves as a burnt offering and acknowledgment to our ancestors.

I'm glad i could share this with you and I hope it inspires you to engage in the rituals of your European ancestors.

Anyway that set is fucking sweet bro, how long did you spend cleaning them up? That old continental silverware is remarkably beefy, normal place-setting spoons or forks weighing 80-90+g each is hard to get used to when we're accustomed to pieces which weigh just 1/2 or 1/3 as much. Anyway the wear on the fork tines making one side much shorter is probably just from being used and scraped against plates for many years. I've seen plenty of old sterling forks that were used for decades and display the same kind of unevenly worn-down tines, though the wear on yours is more dramatic than most. Maybe the people who looted and used them had low grade unglazed pottery plates or something like that which wore them down more than fine smooth porcelain or china would?

Interesting, that's yet another thing to always keep your eyes open for. If a noob seller listed a dozen of them for sale without giving the weight, I doubt most people without direct experience would know they weigh around a kilo! Yes I'm sure the tines could be restored to original length by soldering extra pieces on, but you're probably right that it would be an expensive job. Still worth getting a quote though, if the set is authenticated as being genuine Louis XV it might be smart to fix them. The little matching demitasse spoons are sterling and I think they're from England actually, they're packed away so I can't verify though. And I honestly don't have a good sense of value or fair price for those later Ptolemaic coins, I have no idea if that paricular variety happens to be scarce or special for some reason but generally those later Ptolemaic tetradrachms aren't worth much. Question to people with less than $50k whos stack is mostly gold.

Why do you stack so much gold?
There's only 7 times more silver being mined today.
Historically this has been a bit more like 8 or 9x.
However, a significant part of silver is lost (more so than gold) and half of the silver is in industrial use today and very large part in jewelery/silverware/old coinage.
Only a small amount is in bullion form whilst for gold that's not true.
The bullion ratio seems to be about 2 to 1 from most estimates I've seen.
Yet the Comex OI ratio is 13.4.

The price ratio stands at 87.
This means that the gold COMEX market in USD terms is only 6.5 times as big as Silver.
However, the mining industry is 12.5 times as large.
Available bullion is 44 times as large.

Anyway I'm bullish on gold, and I'm not saying silver will 100% definitely outperform, but I dont find it very sensible to allocate more of your portfolio to gold than to silver as long as your silver stack doesnt become unmanageable in terms of weight.

If you want to make an impact thought and give a F you to the system.
Clearly you should focus on silver.

Yes, USPS advised me to file a claim, however the package was only insured for $100 and the order was $400. I spoke to the Indian sales reps at Bold several times, and they've assured me that someone will be looking at my order soon, then reach out to process my replacement claim. what they didn't know is the owners weren't bluffing. They were going broke. So they never pumped those mines out. They closed them.

the town quickly died.

in 1896 the town put on a carnival to try to raise money and get some tourists in. They built a huge castle out of ice with ballrooms, skating rinks, towers, sledding, restaurants, art galleries, the whole works. And people did come. It was hugely successful until one of the hottest and earliest springs on record destroyed it.

after that the town was largely abandoned.
These are some of the souvenirs of that carnival. In 1896. Three years after the repeal of the Sherman Silver Purchase Act, and very shortly before the death of the town.
