The period between 80 and 00 is soaking too much of the annualized return figure. After the hunt brother squeeze until the new millennia it remained low because that was an era of prosperity where derivative markets really expanded and prior to many tech applications that just didn’t exist. Now that industry is taking up 50% of supply and we’re entering into economic turmoil the likes of which we’ve never really seen. If you want to be honest with using that as an indicator I say it should be cut off 2000 and on.

I'd like to share some of our family traditions with you guys, that you might incorporate some of our ancient European rituals into your yearly celebration. My Wife's Grandfather and my Grandfather are both full blooded Irishmen.
The Irish celebrate Samhain, which is the middle point between the Autumn (equinox) and the beginning of Winter (solstice).

We believe that it is important to honor the cycle of seasons, and also that it is a special time where the veil between our ancestors (and other mischievious spirits) is at its thinnest.

To ward off negativity we carve pumpkins with images of our bounty (we carved chicks, and chickens this year, as our flock has reached 28 and we have so many eggs). We place these pumpkins at each of the entrances to our home and light them.

And for our ancestors we have our children paint the Irish Surnames of their grandfathers and paint vibrant colors, so that our ancestors may be acknowledged for the fruits of our collective labor. (these are placed in a big pile in front of our home).

To exploit the material and spiritual veil we engage in fortune telling by baking Barmbrack (Traditional Irish Raisin bread) and fill them with varying tokens a silver coin for fortune, a ring for love, a single hard green pea for comfort, black eyed pea for luck).

on Warmer Samheins we kindle our own fires, carry a flame from them, quench them, and unite in a larger fire. It symbolizes our unity and also serves as a burnt offering and acknowledgment to our ancestors.

I'm glad i could share this with you and I hope it inspires you to engage in the rituals of your European ancestors.
Keep Stackin!

Me too, you making him spend time digging around for alibaba screenshots he thinks are relevant but which only highlight how retarded he is was amusing. I think he got banned sometime in the past day though, either that or he finally roped instead of coped.

Anyway that set is fucking sweet bro, how long did you spend cleaning them up? That old continental silverware is remarkably beefy, normal place-setting spoons or forks weighing 80-90+g each is hard to get used to when we're accustomed to pieces which weigh just 1/2 or 1/3 as much. Anyway the wear on the fork tines making one side much shorter is probably just from being used and scraped against plates for many years. I've seen plenty of old sterling forks that were used for decades and display the same kind of unevenly worn-down tines, though the wear on yours is more dramatic than most. Maybe the people who looted and used them had low grade unglazed pottery plates or something like that which wore them down more than fine smooth porcelain or china would?

>that set is fucking sweet bro
Thanks scrapfren, i'm really glad i could score this one.
>how long did you spend cleaning them up?
Not much in truth, maybe 10-12mn? I used my bottle of Argentil for polishing, which is super efficient. And thank god it didn't take longer, because the petrochemical elements are pretty violent and tend to make my head spin after few minutes, like if i sniffed a 1L bottle of white spirit lol.

>That old continental silverware is remarkably beefy
Those are among the heaviest from my collection for this size, they weight around 94-95gr each. I noticed the weight is conditioned by the model. The "filets" (with a contour line) silverware are pretty much always around 90gr. But "uniplat" are often lightweighted, sometimes as low as 50gr!

You are probably right about the natural wear, i'd like to have the tines restored if it doesn't cost too much, but i'm not fooling myself, a craftman would probably charge me a fortune for it. Maybe more than what i bought it for...

Cute spoons in your pic. They are from the US? The ones with the floral theme kinda remind me of few early XXth art nouveau.

Btw fren, i'm contemplating acquiring my first antiquity coin. I'm thinking of this Ptolemee IX Soter II Tetradrachm if the price is nice, because i love this period of greek/macedonian occupation of Egypt. The condition is far from top notch, but it's fine for dipping toes. Is this a good idea?
What would be the max bid i should make to consider it a (very?) good deal to your opinion?

Interesting, that's yet another thing to always keep your eyes open for. If a noob seller listed a dozen of them for sale without giving the weight, I doubt most people without direct experience would know they weigh around a kilo! Yes I'm sure the tines could be restored to original length by soldering extra pieces on, but you're probably right that it would be an expensive job. Still worth getting a quote though, if the set is authenticated as being genuine Louis XV it might be smart to fix them. The little matching demitasse spoons are sterling and I think they're from England actually, they're packed away so I can't verify though. And I honestly don't have a good sense of value or fair price for those later Ptolemaic coins, I have no idea if that paricular variety happens to be scarce or special for some reason but generally those later Ptolemaic tetradrachms aren't worth much. At a glance I'd assume it's something like a $125 coin, maybe under $100. Here's one you coulda gotten for under $30 kek: https://www.coryssa.org/2535972
Do some research on Coryssa to get a sense for the value of lower-tier ancients you won't see sold individually by fancy auction houses

Silber? I know right you pay a 33% premium and then it goes down, down 3% this year, then you lose 10% to inflation so you lost almost 50% in 10 months. Why is silver so expensive?

What's funny about all you silver scam victims is you are trapped. You lost 80% already and over 400% compared to the stock market

If silver went up to $120 <it wont> you could sell and break even

If silver went to $670 <ROFL> you would be even with boomers who invested in the DJIA. <lmao>

But you won't sell because it's your whole life you will be a broke loser unless silver went to $100,000 and you could buy a virgin for 10 cents. Lmao that's what you were promised and what you believe.

So you are trapped. You are stuck with a lifetime of pain because you invested all your real $$$$ in a scam. You can't sell because that would be admitting you got scammed and you h8 me too much for telling you the truth and warning you. Emotionally and financially trapped its your whole life....your identity.

Lmao how did you get to this place? greed. You listened to a scammer and got greedy and wanted to get rich <and a gf> with no effort.

Question to people with less than $50k whos stack is mostly gold.

Why do you stack so much gold?
There's only 7 times more silver being mined today.
Historically this has been a bit more like 8 or 9x.
However, a significant part of silver is lost (more so than gold) and half of the silver is in industrial use today and very large part in jewelery/silverware/old coinage.
Only a small amount is in bullion form whilst for gold that's not true.
The bullion ratio seems to be about 2 to 1 from most estimates I've seen.
Yet the Comex OI ratio is 13.4.

The price ratio stands at 87.
This means that the gold COMEX market in USD terms is only 6.5 times as big as Silver.
However, the mining industry is 12.5 times as large.
Available bullion is 44 times as large.

Anyway I'm bullish on gold, and I'm not saying silver will 100% definitely outperform, but I dont find it very sensible to allocate more of your portfolio to gold than to silver as long as your silver stack doesnt become unmanageable in terms of weight.

If you want to make an impact thought and give a F you to the system.
Clearly you should focus on silver.

The thing about the stock market, is that it is highly manipulated...just like silver and gold prices... but, sadly, with the stock market, you own NOTHING, but a piece of paper... ebay is special. It is not the place to buy for a stack, unless all other bidders are asleep at or away from the keyboard, or you're a scrap hound with commendable patience. Sellers have to charge more because they pay a fee to ebay, and someone has to pay shipping, too (don't forget to add that cost to your spreadsheet). ebay is more a palce to go when you're looking for a particular item that is no longer at any retail/LCS outlet.

This is such a great photo. The 90 year long cycle has had ample time to instill normalcy bias, that all of the unprecedented wealth we think we have was not because of american hard work and ingenuity, but a literal credit card spending binge that was a literal looting operation of the world and paid for with American labor. We were part of the fuel being consumed. Even if we can renegotiate trading terms and the economy resume without mad-max, all of our debt-based ownership, benefits and insurance are all highly suspect. We will ALWAYS be enticed to buy back in to the system to chase yields and dividends. But once the band aid comes off reality will reassert itself. Assets with counterparty risk or settled on a margin basis and therefore leveraged will not be able to sustain these prices. Jobs exposed to leveraged assets such as medicine, higher education, and real estate will all suffer dearly. Welfare and government benefits will also suffer greatly once tax receipts collapse from student loans and real estate valuations imploding. All down the payment chain you will see the economy have to adjust to the changes. It's a nasty medicine and there is no avoiding it. We could have taken the gross tasting medicine in 2009 but instead we get the turkey baster full of hot sauce up ass.
Not my problem though. Physical based wealth will shine in these trying times.

No. Gold and Silver were money prior to 1970.
Gold as an interchangeable reserve and silver as literal coinage material.
(gold as coinage material prior to 1931-1933 when production of the gold sovereign, 20 dollar, 10 dollar, 10 Guilder and 20 Yen all stopped)

However, only gold today still holds a monetary function as a 'floor fund' if you will to the fiat currencies, the dollar cant fall below a certain level of M2 or debt to gold because the US holds gold in reserve, similar for the Euro, Ruble, Yuan.

So for the past 50 years, silver has been completely demonetized whilst gold has only been partially demonitized.
I'm not saying that silver is going to see a larger role in the monetary system going forward but I'm saying that it is a possibility and that give silver more upside potential than gold.

I'm also willing to bet that there are more people that hold more than 50% of their stack in gold that would believe that silver has more chance of reaching 40-to-1 ratio than 190-to-1 than that there are people holding more than 50% of silver whilst believing that silver is more likely to go to 190-to-1 than it is of going to 40-to-1.

This is nonsensical and it is due to a culture that has been shoving silver systematically aside for the past 50 years because it currently serves no role.

we have moved from a paradigm of using objects as a means of trade to using information. For people to agree to this move, we have to pretend that the information still represents objects. However that need has mostly disappeared, and most people born today are fine with using information to trade without the backing of any objects.

The next obvious step is to dispense with the objects entirely, and use information about a person or group's behavior as our means of trade, which we have also been doing for quite a while now and seems amenable to most people. The people and groups who don't want their behavior used as a basis for trade are also generally the same people we don't want benefiting from trade with us.

If this pattern continues, gold and silver will very likely be relegated to decorative and industrial use only, and the value of both will drop significantly. If however the method of using behavior as a basis for trade fails, gold and silver could very well become far more valuable. It's also possible that neither will happen, and humanity will continue using a mixture of objects, information, and behavior as the basis for trade. This outcome seems unlikely though since we are moving in a clear direction currently, and that direction will either work or fail. As to which outcome is more likely, all evidence points at this time to behavior becoming the basis for trade, and objects such as gold and silver being increasingly abandoned except by those people and groups least beneficial to trade. Crypto suffers the same problem but on a much larger scale, since almost nobody is trading crypto aside from criminal cartels, greedy individuals, and banks that seek wealth for its own sake. None of these groups are necessarily beneficial to humanity.

currently you do a good deed (work) and your deed is judged by an auditor (supervisor) and you are given a number of electronic chits equal to the judged value of your good deed.

you may then take those chits and exchange them for real objects, with the caveat that what objects you choose will also be judged by an auditor (credit agency)

finally, if you get enough good boy points for long enough, people will allow you to collect chits for good deeds (work) you haven't yet done, and then sit back and let you do your good deeds for months or years or decades to earn the chits you have been preemptively granted.

all of these chits lose value if hoarded, and can be taken away from you if you do a really bad deed (crime) or several slightly bad deeds (misdemeanors), They can also be taken if you prove yourself incompetent to earn, manage, or spend them (bankruptcy, legal incompetence)

the chits are just a formality, information telling you how you're doing and how to optimize your good deeds and spending. They can at this time be gotten rid of. The metric is not necessary.

so in the real world, you punch in to work by walking through the door. Your biosignature is scanned. You do a certain amount of work within a certain timeframe to a certain standard, and you leave.

then you walk into a store and again your biosignature is scanned, and you are shown products your work allows you to afford. The price won't necessarily be visible, but if so it would likely be in hours of work, not dollars or troy ounces or whatever. You get your goods, you leave.

same with banking. If you've got enough work done to earn credit, you will be notified of that when you go shopping. No need to apply, you've earned it and we expect you to keep on earning it.

money never changes hands, it doesn't really exist anymore. You do work, you get things. That's it.

Since most westerners are already voluntarily participating in this system, it's very easy to identify the rewards and punishments of participation.

first it is the only system available in most parts of the world people want to live in. Second participation yields greater rewards than nonparticipation (houses, cars, mobility, phones, access to entertainment, etc)

the punishments for refusing to participate vary from not getting all that fun stuff, to being locked in a cage for long periods of time. Punishments are enforced- as you note- by participants with guns. Whose good deeds are locking up nonparticipants.

Ultimately the rewards are sex and reproduction, rather than just enjoyment of life. This is offset some by the fact that many people are unable or unwilling to participate, and they generally can manage to have sex and babbies anyways. Though usually not as successfully as participants within the system.

also, as I keep saying

everything I'm talking about has already happened. This is old technology and has been in use for decades. Longer than most people here have been alive.

the only reason you don't notice it is because you're still allowed to use older methods. Barter, or trade in dollars, or whatever you poor folks use. But the moderately successful people haven't touched physical cash in years, and don't want to. Let alone gold or silver.

and soon, since things like paper money and metals can be used for crime, and at best are only used by the very poor, they will likely become illegal, or inaccessible, or simply cease to exist in the public sphere. Along with privately owned crypto and other means of exchange that really only get used for crime.

there is an increasing disconnect between trade policies and the finances of individual people. These are 2 separate realms, and we're approaching a point where so long as the individual works, and spends, the actions of the government regarding trade don't much matter, and the actions regarding internal money use also cease to matter since they are controlling human behavior rather than money supply.
>you keep your assets inside the debt ridden system and simply believe we can rise above it all because we're 'modern'.
I wouldn't call it a "rise," but the slogan "you will own nothing and you will be happy" is about where we appear to be heading. My assets don't matter because I won't own them, and the system has already been replaced whether we like it or not.

The interest of the state, and banks, and law enforcement agencies, and insurers, and creditors, and spouses, and relatives, and people I may have harmed, and people I hire, is all pretty easy to see in property like houses and cars and such.

but with metals it's less clear. You can hide your gold or silver. Or you can destroy it. Or you can give it away or lose it.
However all those acts are already illegal in the US and other countries if some other agency, company, or person has or gets an owning interest in your property.
Say you borrow money and don't pay it back, and then hide your gold or silver in the back yard. This is of course a crime, and you will very likely lose your license and title to that gold or silver. If they catch you that is. But the aim of technology is to make it easier to catch you, not harder. We are moving from a system where ownership is technically possible even when illegal, to completely impossible if illegal. That will predictably result in first the regulation of such assets, and if allowed to continue, the complete outlawing of them.

the main reason people stack is because they know that's not true. We are very clearly heading towards a US without private gun ownership, extralegal assets, traditional property ownership, unrestricted travel, etc.

this trajectory may be stopped by an act of the people, but most people seem to be going along with it just fine so far. You might not see it if you live in a part of the country that resists these changes, but it's already happening in the rest of the country, and the rest of the country is perfectly capable of at least trying to force you to obey.

or just doing what they're already doing- inflating their money so they can afford to buy you out of your area, which they then take over with their authoritarian system.

we used to cut fingers off of criminals, or tattoo and brand them. That way people knew at least a little who to trust and who to avoid. But since you couldn't always be sure, we had to use honest money. Money that generally couldn't be faked.

now we have the ability to not only track everything a person does, but we're actually already doing it. In that situation the money doesn't need to be honest or valuable, just the information about people does. History had the rudiments of this sort of system, but it also never saw the scope and size of this system. As long as we allow constant, detailed surveillance of everything we do and buy, we are operating in a system history unlike anything history has seen. And how a completely new system behaves isn't necessarily predicted by history.

first pic isn't directly free silver related, but Leadville being the largest silver producer in the world at the time was very much behind the free silver movement. Both the miners and the mine owners had a very direct interest in supporting silver. So when the Sherman Act was cut the wages of miners also got cut. This resulted in a strike for higher wages. The owners couldn't take the loss so they brought in both scab workers, the national guard to protect the scabs, and a number of gunfighters and killers to spice things up.

In the resulting gun fights a number of people died, several mines were lit on fire, and ultimately the miners sabotaged the mines by shutting off the pumps. This resulted in most of the mines flooding.

what they didn't know is the owners weren't bluffing. They were going broke. So they never pumped those mines out. They closed them.

the town quickly died.

in 1896 the town put on a carnival to try to raise money and get some tourists in. They built a huge castle out of ice with ballrooms, skating rinks, towers, sledding, restaurants, art galleries, the whole works. And people did come. It was hugely successful until one of the hottest and earliest springs on record destroyed it.

after that the town was largely abandoned.
These are some of the souvenirs of that carnival. In 1896. Three years after the repeal of the Sherman Silver Purchase Act, and very shortly before the death of the town.

It cost 15 cents at a time when the average wage for a 10 hour day of work was about a dollar.

at about a dime per hour, this was about 1.5 hours of work. Or about $37 in today's wages in Colorado. This was not a cheap pamphlet, it was a donation to the Free Silver movement. A pretty big one. 4 issues could be had for a donation of a buck, about $200 in modern moneys.

PAN MAN will know, there is a name for contract miners.

we're called "gypo miners." a racist term referring to gypsies. Because we go in, do a third of a job, cut corners all over the place, often leaving unsafe conditions for those coming in after us, and we take the money and run. Like gypsies.

In modern times we don't operate like criminals, but the fees we charge are perhaps criminal. However the work we do is valuable enough that silver mining companies both large and small keep right on hiring us. Gypo miners are an important part of mining ecology. And usually a pretty wealthy slice if they're any good at it.

your stacks wouldn't even cover my payroll. I've spent more money in the last year than most of you will ever earn in your lives. That is mining. That is the price of your metals. You stack a million dollars in metals and you've paid a real person to mine rocks for 5 years.

these are the simple truths. You buy an ounce of silver for $25 you pay a miner to work for 10 minutes. Or maybe you paid for his smoke break. Or to piss in the dry. The truth of mining doesn't line up well with the reality of buying metals. Those metals came from somewhere, and the people mining them got most of your cash for the work.

You don’t have to like me. You’re performing a service and are getting paid to do it, whether or not I purchase the product of that service has no effect of whether or not you get paid. Most of the money you’ve been paid came from defense companies anyway. So why it bothers you so much ( someone who actively benefits from the purchases and prices of silver) that people stack silver, I’ll probably never understand. Maybe you’re drunk, maybe you’re stupid, or maybe this is all one big larp.

According to you, you don't have any money you have to save up to buy a few ounces of metal you are really irrelevant, , can't defeat JP or the FED or come, premium grabbers won't make much off you but it's not like much silver is mined to get silver it's a byproduct of useful metals. Kektop you and Bob and panboy and mintscamanon
and ashtraygirl wouldn't know that because unlike me yall aren't mining executives

most of the money I have been paid has come from Freeport MacMoRan.

a copper. silver, and gold company apparently.

you don't bother me. You pay me

you mention DoD and whiskey so you know who I am anyways.

most of my money comes from mining companies, not the feds.

most of what you guys pay for silver or gold goes to people like me.

it is what it is. You want metal, I want to be a millionaire. So we work out a price.

I appreciate what you've paid me. I won't use it to stack metals because those are free in the dirt for anyone that wants them. But I do appreciate the living. It's been a good living so far.
