If you don't rebalance, it's ceases to be a 50/50 portfolio after the first year. In which case you don't really have a strategy. SOXS is such complete dogshit that you're just owning SOXL and lighting half your money on fire.
I can't imagine anyone would've been surprised to read that a portfolio of 50% SOXL backtested in a massive bull run achieved 50% of the performance of a portfolio of 100% SOXL.
However on a forward basis, probably more accurate to say you're lighting all your money on fire.

There's some true alpha showing up in a monthly rebalanced 50/50 SOXL/SOXS short though. Put that 200% cash exposure into something like FLOT. Great sortino, no major drawdowns, decade long return profile similar to SPY, but with no annual drawdowns exceeding 2% loss.
Just pure, uncorrelated alpha.

>The sudden death of a Toronto-based hedge fund manager has prompted an investigation into tens of millions of dollars in losses that the fund appears to have run up.

>The Ontario Securities Commission issued the temporary order as it investigates the financial condition of Traynor Ridge Capital Inc. and a series of failed trades that saddled three brokerage firms with losses, the regulator said in an Oct. 30 filing. The firms were left with losses ranging from C$85 million to C$95 million ($61.3 million to $68.5 million) after completing trades for Traynor during the week of Oct. 23.

Doesn't take a crystal ball to say with confidence that NVDA is not going to 10x again short term. Low trillion dollars market cap is roughly the maximum that current liquidity can support. Nothing going to 10 tril unless congress opens the floodgates of stimulus again. If/When that happens, be ready.
Similarly, it's not difficult to understand that positive real cost of leverage is negatively impactful for leveraged products, whereas negative real interest rates provided a substantial decade long boost. This goes beyond stocks. If you took a mortgage pre-covid and bought a house, you've locked in a nice multi-decade discount. Todays buyers, not so much.

Also people who invest in divvy stocks don't really give a damn on how high the stock price itself goes; the only thing that maters is divvy hikes and to a lessor point how fat the yield is. Well admittedly it was due to it once upon a time being part of GE. Basically GE merged its oil and gas unit with Baker Hughes and kept a majority stake in it. Later when GE fell apart and died due to Culp I kept the BKR shares I had. I sold my GE at 114 during the break apart surge news last year. I'm up decently on BKR. They've also hiked the divvy and done buybacks. I was a GE shareholder during the final days of them still being a great company. Transportation, Healthcare, Lighting, Power, Oil/gas (BKR),Aviation, Aviation services. The only part I wasn't around for was when the appliances unit was still with the company.

Why is this? Do I have to somehow opt-in or activate the new interest rate?
