my manager suggested I could get a promotion for taking on more hours and learning some new stuff plus doing some receiving work for no extra pay
so I did
and then his boss decided not to promote me so im just stuck with all this extra work and hours I dont want

I have a solution for this. But first tell me how long have you been doing the new thing that your boss wanted you to learn for? Also aren't there any other employees doing this new stuff that you learnt? Also what is the frequency of this "new work" in this company, what I want to know is whether that new stuff is seasonal or keeps coming up everyday/week or month for you to do?
