Because a reasonable portfolio holds more than one position. I already had a pretty large PBR position that's given me substantial gains this year, and I still hold most of it. Exxon is comparatively overvalued while expressing the same factor.
If all your plays are winning in sync, there will likely also be a point where they are all losing in sync. I'd rather limit that correlation risk by pursuing several distinct strategies.
SAVE has crashed 25% in a few days on what seems to be some systemic hedging collapse of other arbs involved in the trade. Poor Spirit earnings report was the catalyst. In the end it's still only a 2-3% negative impact on my own portfolio. Worst case I lose the entire 15%, the year is a wash. I move on.

>>56513001
The proper expectation is $29.80. Jetblue's been prepaying in 10 cent increments and no conclusion is likely before the final payment in December. They'll actually keep paying past that point, but December marks the cutoff on deducting payments from the final buyout.

During the shipping delay bullshit with the supply chain issues, we're cutting out losses on places with old equipment. Yes. Massive layoffs all year due to clipping interest rate sinks. Majority of jobs going to Eastern EU or India. Japan is super fucked.

>You guys don't have fixed rates? Pic related.
Not sure what pic related is referring too. Fixed rates? We sign leases, like all companies. Most are 3-6 years. Our update/EOL cycles are 60 months. We leverage both timelines, interest rates, cost to employ, etc. and it's cheaper to exit or shrink large city exposure and possibly hold some of the fly over states, but we're cutting out of all of the fastest growers the last three years. Leases aren't worth renewing.

Bloomberg: "A tweak in Japan’s yield-curve control would have significant implications for global fund flows. Japanese investors are the biggest foreign holders of US government debt, and also own sizable amounts of European and Australian bonds, among other assets. Higher yields at home may lead Japanese institutions to sell overseas holdings and bring that cash home."

And we can expect the same thing again as the BOJ will probably still try to suppress yields going to 1%, the same way as when they changed the ycc to 0,5%. This will be a really slow bleed.

Pearl Harbor was a bad situation, but not exactly stupid. FDR didn't like Japan's genocidal war in China, so he imposed an oil embargo. That left Japan the choice of either giving up that war or taking the only oil in the region (the Dutch East Indies). However taking the DEI would drag in the US, so their only real choice was a two front war.

And if you read up on the Russo-Japanese war of 1905, "surprise naval victory causes a giant whitu piggu empire to give up" wasn't unheard of.

Yes, both would probably rise but for different reasons.

They would have to sell their USD they bought with borrowed Yen, first selling US equities and assets they used to buy with the USD. Then they would have to buy back the Yen.

This would cause equities to go down, which would also cause DXY to go up.

The irony is that Japan is the only country that is actually solvent because you can consider BOJ holdings as monetized and canceled and Japanese holdings of foreign debt exceed the rest of JGBs. Their shitcos will go to zero en masse, but most of their important companies have been hording yen for decades and have net cash.

The YouTube channel World War Two also went balls to the wall and made a minute-by-minute special on December 7th 1941. It's a hell of a watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Joh2BXPsrXs&list=PLsIk0qF0R1j6ydMvoUBKj_WrnP4PtBlfk
