I'm probably misrepresenting this, because I don't actually understand, and these are vague memories.

Can you or some other anon explain what is going on?
If I was to guess, Schwartz is pushing for amendments like hooks and claw backs, because banks are never going to accept xrp as the neutral bridge currency, without these features.
But Weitse doesn't want xrp to become the neutral bridge currency,
and has some other completely different vision for the xrpl network,
So he's trying to get all of the validators to turn on Ripple's amendments,
and now he's trying to replace xrp with some new crypto that uses the xrpl network.
There aren't that many validators.
And it doesn't seem like they get paid much to be a validator.
I've never understood what benefit validators get in the first place.
It seems like they are vulnerable to being bribed or pressured into making decisions.
XRP and XRPL are supposed to be decentralized.
But what happens if the validators make decisions that harm Ripple and / or XRP,
that prevent it from becoming the neutral bridge currency?
What is Ripple supposed to do?
The validators are supposed to be neutral.
So any overt attempts to influence them, by Ripple, would invalidate the claim that the xrpl is neutral.
Ripple is damned if they do, and damned if they don't.
I am probably misunderstanding several key points here.

I think Ripple isn't funding them anymore, so this is how they plan to fund themselves basically.
The way I see it is they're taking the network hostage to try to extract money from Ripple and the network.
Realistically, Xahau is even worse than Flare, and no one is gonna burn their XRP nor buy their 600m Xahaus.
The best way to protect the XRPL from these people is for them to make little or no money at Xahau's launch, so it will all have been for nothing.

If Xahau gets any sort of success, then the XRPL UNL validators and other participants will be further incentivized to further undermine the XRP Ledger, since they'll be profiting from the XRPL doing poorly, that's why you see them attacking XRP and Ripple all the time.

this could take a number of forms but the one that might be most interesting, which has been largely absent, would be getting RippleX to take the lead on attempting to establish a XRPL DAO, perhaps modeled on the Stellar Community Foundation's community fund. easier said than done, and complicated because their XRP ARMY!!! marketing campaign has brought a lot of people into the ecosystem who are concerned mainly with getting return on their investment after watching Literally Every Other Fucking community get rich. but if Ripple isn't happy with XRPL Labs and XRPLF taking the lead, they need to cast a broader net. it could also have the side benefit of taking some of the pressure off the XRPL Grants team, who seem like they have basically been getting it from all sides.

This is the self made conflict that occured when Ripple had to sell the idea that XRP and Ripple were two completely separate entities that could both exist without the other, to improve chances of winning the lawsuit.

Look back at old videos of David from a few years ago, he calls refers to XRP as "your Ripple" or the "Ripple network", but more recently it's always XRP and XRPL.

Because of this separation, the XRPL foundation has begun creating its own identity, and it's sick of cleaning up Ripple's messes, e.g. XLS20D, which almost killed the XRPL by overloading it with shitcoins. Like a petulant teenager, they (XRPL) are also upset at their parent (Ripple) for not supporting their own pursuits (Hooks) and therefore looked for others to make it happen (Evernode). They also are now actively working against anything Ripple want to add (AMM), not only out of spite, but also because they fear the work such an amendment will add with extra load to the network and potential bugs that the auditor did not find.

I respect what Wietse brings to the table, and the work he has done to make sure the XRPL hasn't shit itself over the years. The behaviour of the validators is so immature though, especially CasinoCoin and offledger. They swagger around Twitter like they are XRPLs greatest contributors and poo poo anything to do with the AMM like a pair of butthurt clowns.
XRPL was always meant for institutional use; why these fuckwits are surprised and want to work against its adoption confuses me.
