That works if you're willing to manage it. As long as you're effectively flat that's all that matters. It's not that the 200 day moving average is the perfect strategy, it's a good enough strategy that will help you avoid the fat tails holding leveraged ETFs subject you too. If you want to use puts or inverse ETFs or futures contracts, or whatever else to get flat when the strategy says get flat then it's fine. The key with trend following is have a strategy with positive expectancy that avoids fat tails and that you are willing to be consistent with. Every time an anon finds a trend strategy that he likes and goes gung ho on it always comes down to the moment of truth of will you actually execute the trade. That time is almost certainly tomorrow morning for this round. Consistency and follow through are much more important than whether you sell or use puts

>My grandma has like a $5m estate. After taxes and split between her 3 children would be like 1.25mil
There's a big problem with inheritance in the modern world where the elderly live to 80-90+. By the time an inheritance is passed down, the inheritor is often in their 60s.
Inheriting money in your 60s is fairly useless if you've already been saving properly towards retirement, so the money ends up sitting around useless for another generation, in repetition into eternity.
In this sense, there's a massive pool of "wealth" in the world that may as well not exist. There is a huge medical industrial complex that's been making every attempt possible to siphon this slush money, but there are better options.

If you want a good inheritance at a time in life where it may offer meaningful benefit, you should teach your parents/grandparents the concept of dying with zero. Convince them to give you a tax free gift, today.

Take your emotions out of the situation. You are in a panic right now, or you are in denial. Look objectively at the situation are you in. There is nothing wrong with cutting losses, if the fundamentals no longer line up. As soon as a trade stops making sense, as soon as an investment stops making sense, you should no longer be in. The sooner that you learn this discipline, and also learn the discipline to distinguish when it's just fear vs an actual change in the underlying fundamentals, the sooner you will become a profitable trader/investor. THREADLY REMINDER that if you are following the SOXX/SOXL 200 day moving average strategy you are still up 18% since you bought SOXL on January 12th. Don't let those gains slip away. If SOXX is under the 200 day at 4pm close today you need to sell your SOXL tomorrow and lock in those gains. Don't let it turn into a 20, 30, 60 percent loss. You're ignoring dividend yield. You're also ignoring the opportunity cost of the time spent waiting for that moving average to trigger the flag.
You're ignoring the losses SOXL may incur tomorrow at open. You'll also likely ignore the 2-3 false flags as SOXX straddles its moving average in the coming month.

And regardless, SPY is a pretty fucking low bar. It's been flat for 24 months now.
The point is, you could've taken a 100% profit, like I did. The time to exit was incredibly obvious and did not require some magic meme line to tell you what to do. Instead you get 10%, maybe 20%. Fixed structure trend-following strategies are useless.

>You're ignoring dividend yield
I was actually comparing SOXL versus SPY total return so no I was not ignoring divvies
>You're also ignoring the opportunity cost of the time spent waiting for that moving average to trigger the flag
It's a mechanical trend following strategy that's designed to be easy to execute and save the strategist from fat tail losses incurred from a buy and hold of the same underlying. In order to make it work you have to take all the trades when the trade signals. You bring up a good point though and it's why most people lose money trend following despite it being a positive EV strat. You can't contain your emotion. You think that you can do better so you sell too soon or too late or you buy too soon or too late. You over trade and the trend following doesn't work for you. It's the same reason a lot of investors in Peter Lynch's tenure over the Magellan fund actually lost money despite Lynch's performance being legendary. They thought they knew better. They didn't
>You're ignoring the losses SOXL may incur tomorrow at open. You'll also likely ignore the 2-3 false flags as SOXX straddles its moving average in the coming month
Pass that crystal ball bro. Again with trend following you should expect most trades to lose. It's the smaller percentage of big winners that way more than make up for the losses. Obviously you aren't emotionally stable enough to follow something like that so it isn't for you. After losing enough money and capitulating maybe you'll be ready
>SPY is a pretty fucking low bar. It's been flat for 24 months now
SPY has had an excellent run this year, one of its best ever and that's what I'm comparing to. Please keep up
>The point is, you could've taken a 100% profit, like I did

>SPY has had an excellent run this year, one of its best ever and that's what I'm comparing to. Please keep up
You're not. You selectively compared to the returns of SPY past January 12th. Actually the 13th, or perhaps you're both rounding SOXL up while rounding SPY down?
Anyway it doesn't really matter what differences in our calculations lead to small discrepancies. You're right that you probably won't lose money on leveraged rotation unless the underlying index camps the 200 DMA and keeps flipping traders out for immediate losses.

>If you can maintain that track record over the long term you will be swimming in the money Wall Street will throw at you to manage their hedge funds. Remember me and give a shout out to your /smg/ homies when that happens
lol. I have done pretty well for myself, enough to effectively retire, but wall street is not about making big successful trades. It's a sales position. It's about selling yourself as a winner to some old money so that they'll grace you with a 2% cut. It's all about the AUM game.
Cathy wood has been an incredible capital incinerator these past few years, yet she's also turned herself into a multimillionaire.
I'm content with what I have, so I won't be joining that billionaire rat race.

>After losing enough money and capitulating maybe you'll be ready
I blew up my trading portfolio a decade ago. It taught me important lessons in risk management, and was a key driver in leading me to where I am today. While I wouldn't wish this upon anyone, those that live through such a situation and survive come out stronger. Something you'll never experience by passively abiding to a fixed strategy with strict rules to follow.

>You're not. You selectively compared to the returns of SPY past January 12th
You're selectively comparing the leveraged rotation strategy to your own preferred time frame. In my favor though the further the time frame goes back the better the LRS strategy compares not just to SPY but to practically anything else so you're actually weakening your argument by drawing attention to this
>I blew up my trading portfolio a decade ago. It taught me important lessons in risk management
Obviously not enough if you haven't figured out the concept of cutting losses and letting winners ride. Not to mention preferring systems with higher expected value versus "feel good" systems with high percentage of winning trades. Hopefully you do figure out these very elementary lessons before you blow up another portfolio. To put a finer point on it trading isn't about having the coolest system you can brag to your bros about. Successful trading is about winning more than you lose in the long term. Simple as that. You seem to want to look cool bragging about how you "sold the top" or "bought the bottom". Not literally what you said but you're one of those kind of people that thinks others are impressed. Sure newbs will be but anybody who has been around knows that people bragging about win rate and accuracy are guaranteed to lose their money in the long run. Neither of those things matter. A system with a high percentage win rate is automatically suspect and I would assume you have learned nothing from your past experiences. You are a gambler and a dopamine junky. The people strictly following the 200 day strategy might not get the dopamine fixes but they won't rope in despair either. I hope you figure out the difference before it's too late

I hope you understand you are betting on YCC to save your ass.

Bonds are caught in this relentless selloff because, whatever % they are, it cannot possibly be a positive real return, that is: nominal GDP MUST be higher whether it be by inflation or (somehow) real growth. So then more people realize this and sell, and rates rise, and oh shit future inflation is going to have to be higher now. There is no winning this game because real return can't ever be positive for very long unless the US slashes its spending and raises taxes, and willingly endures a depression. Even if they tried that, it would be only a few years until President AOC turned the money printer back on. This is what the bond market is finally realizing they are the ones being served for dinner.

The good news for you is YCC is coming and JPow will bail you out. It's just that when he does, everything else will outperform your bonds so you still lose in real terms.

See above. If your argument is that you (or more likely, someone else) backtested leveraged rotation then lmao.

My performance actually doesn't even matter here. The fact is that there is no logical basis for leveraged rotation strategies to arbitrarily outperform over the long term.
There is, however, logical basis that rebalancing strategies will outperform in a flat market. The same conceptual strategy that you're calling retarded gambling.

>Yeah, holding SOXL from $25 back down to $15 is a great example of "letting winners ride".
When that trade was opened SOXL was at 12.55 so you gained almost 20%. That's a good trade. That's how trend following works. Expecting to sell the literal top has lost a lot more money than trend following and selling when your signal triggers ever has
>>56468040
>If your argument is that you (or more likely, someone else) backtested leveraged rotation then lmao
My argument is that trend following works and the leveraged rotation strategy is one of many ways to do it. It's discussed here because it just happened to be the one that got the notoriety. If you're going to argue that letting winners ride, cutting losers, and following systematic rules doesn't work then you need to present that argument. You have not done so
>The fact is that there is no logical basis for leveraged rotation strategies to arbitrarily outperform over the long term
See the previous response
>There is, however, logical basis that rebalancing strategies will outperform in a flat market
You haven't presented any strategy. You've just subjected the thread to unhinged ranting about how the LRS system doesn't work and how much you claim to have made on your lucky NVDA trade. What are the precise rules of your snowflake strategy so it can be debated if you're so confident in it?

I would sell my SOXL tomorrow morning if any of this red was justified by tangible negative information coming out about the companies that it tracks, but there's just not any. I think we're going to crab around the 200dma now for a while until some random catalyst, like more headlines about the Biden administration signing things about AI/semis or maybe Nvidia earnings will be good [again] but this time it'll go up instead of down.
