You have to live somewhere. The cool thing about buying a house is that equality is an extreme emergency fund. You need 100k for a surgery that will save your life. Sell it and live with your parents while you recover.
But if everything works out in 30 years, you now own the house outright and only need to pay for utilities and taxes. In my case, that only cost me 3k a year.
