I've noticed this new trend of HR creeps getting really aggressive on the screening interview and if you make one wrong move they just immediately end things. Weird. It's like all the comments about how useless they are gave them a chip on their shoulder. I've been filtered by these people for many roles I'd be excellent for.

No you just apply. They are happy to get applications since the huge Fortune 500 companies usually slurp up all the graduates.
Like I said though you generally have to perform. It isn't like working in a 50,000 person company where you can just hide like a mouse and no one even knows who you are or what you're supposed to be doing.
On the flip side you generally receive far superior training at this small companies as they are genuinely interested in you developing competency so you can help them with the work.
