Pros: extremely cheap for its earnings and assets.
Cons: leadership risks. It had a big corruption scandal a few years ago and the government is the majority share holder.

It's possible the government will make the company do something stupid or unprofitable, or the corruption hasn't actually been fixed. I think these risks are overblown but they are talking about getting more shares into the government's hands and green energy initiatives that will make a lot less money than pumping it out of the ground at $80 a barrel. Since the government will out-vote you anyway you can also get non-voting shares (PBR.A) discounted about $1 each compared to voting shares with the same exposure to price movements and dividends.

The dividend date and amount is also picked by a drunk monkey throwing a dart at a calendar, and for a lot of people it'll be a foreign dividend that gets taxed by the Brazilian government and makes taxes annoying.

For me the price is attractive enough to compensate the possible risks as long as oil prices stay high.

PBR/EC/EQNR. Oil will be big for 1-2 years and these are all underpriced for what you're getting. All working on transitions to renewables so I'll see how far they get by 2025 and re-evaluate then.

RIG. Some of the best assets of any offshore oil company and offshore is promising again after a 10 year drought with shale fields running out and the supply/demand situation with refineries, OPEC limits, wars, and Russia embargo. Selling some options on it too as a hedge in case it doesn't pan out.

LMT. Similar performance to NOC/GD but I liked its price the best. Some potential for pricing power due to good IP in Javelin, HIMARS, and F-35. Mostly bought before the Israel thing but still averaging in because I think this is still a good price.

NVDY/APLY/MSFO. I want some tech exposure but also some liquidity.

Mission is to get to a $100k port right now. When you can get $10k+ per year from investments with just an index fund that's where you really start feeling it.

>Damn you get very complicated with your trading.
For what I'm doing I need to find several unrelated companies that look undervalued over the next 1-2 years+. Undervalued because if you buy a cheap company that makes money hand over fist eventually its price will reflect that. And unrelated because no matter how undervalued oil companies are if you own 100% oil companies then if oil goes to $20 a barrel your portfolio is cooked.

I think day trading and swing trading are also complicated, just in a different way. Timing and sentiment matter a lot more, especially with non-productive assets like bitcoin or gold where the price is based almost entirely on supply and speculation.

> Kinda feel like I’ve been getting lucky though, so when my friends ask me what to buy or short I just tell them I’ve been getting lucky and I don’t give advice.
I think the difference is the hard part of value investing happens way in advance of the profits being taken. If I ask Warren Buffett for a stock tip and I buy what he tells me to buy sometime at some price in the next couple years I'll make out like a bandit in 2030. But if I ask somebody on a professional options trading desk what 0dte to trade I'm just going to blow up my account.

Nothing ever happens and everything is pre-planned. Russias invasion of Ukraine was pre-planned, the US response to it was pre-planned, Hamas invading Israel was pre-planned, or excuse me, "a historic failure of Israels intelligence systems", right. Mossad literally has the resources to put agents on /pol/ 24/7/365 to convince white teenagers to shoot up schools, but the accidentally let Hamas invading slip through the cracks. Doubt it. My advice is to begin by taking it slow. Do not make big investments when you're starting off. Invest a little bit, a couple hundred a month at first. Follow charts and focus on learning about finance and different sectors and the relationships between things. You'll get into the swing of things little by little and you'll naturally grow more confident because knowledge is power. Avoid investing in things you don't understand.

You should stay liquid in short term bills, cash and gold and start educating about finance and analyzing businesses and once you think you know a lot (which you probably won't because you can always learn more) maybe buy during a panic, otherwise you'll donate your money to Wall Street if you have no understanding of the assets you're holding and you're nervous about it.

in a simplistic way, companies are valued based on how much money they make "Earnings", multiplied by the amount investors are willing to pay for those profits. the confusion happens because investors are pricing stocks for FUTURE profits, which may or may not be realized. so the companies are absolutely backed by potential+real profits

>> No.56371301

>>56371202
But there in lies the question, how can you assume future profits. And if you miss your estimates why are the companies still propped up? That is where the manipulation actually takes place because you CAN'T estimate future profits. It's impossible.

The you aren't investing, you're gambling on the BELIEF that this company is going to make future profit. So again, why do these companies continue to be propped up instead of fading into complete obscurity. Why is say, apple worth I believe triple it's p/e ratio but still propped up? It's not real. It's manipulation because there is no other place to put your money in America to make a profit. So to "invest" in this country is essentially just gambling on hope and unicorn dust. Realistically, no company can survive forever and at some point, the profits dwindle because limited population makes that happen.

That aid generally benefits business in the long run because it makes a stronger capitalist world order with more trade and less war (and if it doesn't succeed then it at least shows the way America is leaning). Signs of future stability and pro-business environment encourages investing in stocks.

>>56371301
A stock isn't a lottery ticket. It's ownership in a real business that can produce things people actually buy and make a profit. In the long run the company's value to its owners is the same as those profits. It's easy to guess wrong about how much money a company will make in the future but it's not literally random.

When I go take a train or an airplane or a bus or a tram I'm also gambling on the belief that it'll be there on time and that it'll get me to my destination safely. Investing in companies is about the same thing, you're in essence entrusting your capital, your hard work and effort to a company and its personnel, to give you a return on your investment. If you think Apple is a good steward of your capital and that you'll get good returns as a shareholder then why would you not buy some shares of Apple? If you don't, then obviously you wouldn't.

Tell me you're balls deep in the stock market without actually telling me. Nahhh I think that's a bit too exaggerated. I take a bus to go from point a to point b if I'm late then some exigent circumstance caused that but that's life, a stock like Apple offers nothing to investors other than the belief it'll be able to rake money forever. No it really is about exactly the same thing. Many external circumstances affect public transport, and the same is true for any company's activities. Sometimes things go just as planned and other times there are delays or issues or even terrible accidents. But we trust these people and the goods and services they provide all the same to serve our needs without issue. Investing in stocks is therefore just another way of putting our trust in one another, for better or worse.

People lend out their money only when they're confident they'll get it back (future stability) and make a profit (pro-business environment). If you've been here the last few weeks you'd have seen all the people jacking off to bonds because of the guaranteed returns. US aid packages are a signal that stocks will produce more reliable and higher returns in the future because they (are meant to) stabilize the world order.

>I guarantee you were freaking out when covid happened
Freaking out about what a great time to buy stocks it was, yeah. Huge dip and the government printed money hand over fist, guaranteed to pump within a couple years. Happened even faster than I expected. I made like 30% in a year just buying SPY.

>you basically have stated that America is in fact funding this war and that it's for the stock market
It's not doing it "for the stock market." A predictable, peaceful, pro-business world order is beneficial to America because it's the top dog and it doesn't want anything crazy happening that might throw it off the top. America spends a lot on its army but it doesn't actually want to fight wars because that's expensive. Discouraging aggression is in its interest long term. Doing that also happens to pump the stock market but I guarantee that's not the primary reason for the aid packages.

Xbox having no disc drive makes sense as they are pushing their cloud gaming hard. Interesting here is that Ubisoft is taking over cloud gaming because of regalutory concerns by the Microsoft take over of Activision.
Playstation will have two models for the PS6 as can be seen in the PS5 slim, the more expensive edition is the digital edition, with the option of purchasing an external disk drive.
The big underappreciated play here is that the Nintendo Switch 2 is coming out in Q3/Q4 2024 already, still going with cartridges.
For the coming 2-3 year game disks will still be sold, if Walmart and Best Buy are opting out early that gives GME a better position in those years. Growth will look pale, obviously.

Yeah and why won't these companies just create their own blockchain/marketplace wallet instead of using existing public infrastructure especially when all the code is open source? Also have you no shame? The GME NFT store is dead (zero volume), they laid off the entire blockchain team, and they never left beta stage with the wallet (which they also pulled off the market as well).

I don't think their NFT marketplace or upcoming game launcher has a bright future but the wallet is getting removed because there's a new system that automatically creates a wallet in the backend that is associated with your account email instead of the user going through a confusing onboarding system. They hope this will help adoption of the game launcher. Crypto wallets don't make any money anyway so I have no idea why they made the wallet in the first place but them shutting the wallet down isn't a bad sign, everything else is.

Physical media for PC games was already dead by 2010.
Gamestop should reuse their retail space for LAN parties/tournaments like what board game stores do. It's probably the only way forward. If they make it 24 hours they could probably make a ton of money off people/gamers who have nowhere to go at night because of the high cost of residential real estate.

That would require them to dump even more money setting up high end computers/TVs/seats and tables and other shit. Nobody is going to a LAN place that doesn't have top of the line gear, and nobody is going to go to random tournaments with no local scenes/small prizepools.
