It sucks. The jobs are easy and the schedule is usually pretty good, pay is mediocre but not terrible. The real problem is that nowadays it’s filled with women, and specifically women who have no real work to do, so they fill up their time with meetings and committees and phone calls and all kinds of other bullshit that only serves to advance or occupy themselves but everyone gets dragged a long with it. The only work environment that’s worse in this regard is education/higher education. They turn their work environments into giant Kindergartens for adults.

Depends on what you do, but at higher levels it’s almost identical.
> Republicans in office
> Existing programs get the same or a slight reduction in discretionary funding
> Defense and Homeland security programs get more funding (mandatory and discretionary), and new programs are created
> Democrats in office
> Expanded mandatory and discretionary funding for almost all government agencies

LOL if you think the government is shrinking anytime soon and any politician who runs on that campaign is a liar or ignorant.

If you’re a straight White male the only way you’re getting hired is with prior military experience. I’ve met literally 4 White guys in the government that haven’t had prior military experience under the age of 35, and they were all contractors. I’ve only met one FTE who works for the government who is a White guy without prior military experience, specifically under the age of 50. He had a really difficult time getting promoted to a GS-14 role and he’d been bending his back to get it. He only got it with the DHS which is one of the less desirable government agencies to work at. Most of the people who work in government are at most 15 years or less away from retirement age. If you know how to run formulas on excel or even VBA you’ll be light years ahead of everyone else. Your workload isn’t that bad. Really easy to be a slacker. There isn’t a huge reward for going above and beyond and you usually won’t have to work overtime. It’s a job that rewards mediocrity.

Massive job security and very easy work that is over funded by tax dollars. I work for the city as a labourer right now that does various tasks such as maintenance of public parks and garden areas or road work. For any given task we have 3x the labourers helping vs when I use to do construction shit was hard and you had to bust you balls off or get screamed at by the supervisor for being too slow. Also very good upwards mobility, this winter I will be taught how to use snow plow trucks for snow removal

I worked for a contractor that collected old computer equipment. They (namely IT departments) were just about all manned by bearded old unix wizards, and almost everyone around them was contracted out. I suppose it kept stability up to have the same core person or people manning a city's servers and using contractors for the busywork. The guys I talked to said there was one other person on staff that did their job, sometimes they were alone if it was a small town. One dude was playing Minecraft when I showed up.
