Considered entirely apart from serious fundamental or quantitative analysis, literally anyone can construct a simple model based on the average magnitude of price fluctuations for a given stock and its similar competitors in the past. Not powerful stuff, but the "you can't time the market, a completely blind dollar-cost average is best unless you are prepared to get a formal education in finance." that you see in popular money books/videos seems like an overly cautious approach.

considering wages have stagnated over the last 50 years, you would wonder what the average person thinks is a better use of time than learning finance

The saying is what it is because the vast majority of people are brainlets. That said, DCA is still less risky overall.

I have a formal education in finance and take it from me, you don't need w formal education in finance to time the market. Just stick to small percentage changes

You won't beat the market, most edge funds don't and the one that does beat the market use ultra complexe models or AI in the case of blackrock.

Almost no one beats the market long term. The stock market is just a place to park your money against inflation.
