My wife and I work but we could easily get by on just mine or just hers. Combined half a million in income is smooth sailing though
>Remember when $100,000 was a great salary?
Inflation do be like that. But if you have a real skill you should have gotten a raise.
>Remember when the grocery store was the cheap option?
It still is. Post your grocery list and I bet it's filled with semitic carbs and sugar that keeps you fat tired and stupid. Just shop prices and stop being retarded.
>Remember when careers like engineer or accountant were good?
And they still are. But that's so vague. Where are you an accountant? What type of engineer are you? Are you the electrical engineer always coping that you get paid pennies to install a circuit breaker in an apartment building?
>Remember when new cars weren’t more than your entire year’s salary?
I bought a brand new car this year. 25k MSRP. If you're really making less than 25k then you're not an engineer or accountant. You're some Burger jockey. Get a real career before you worry about a house. Buy cheaper cars. No way you're working a real career and can't afford a car unless you insist on something stupid and luxury.

Kevin's dad did something in finance. Most likely related to the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. He may have even been a commodities trader or worked for a firm. His wife (Kevin's mom) was a typical bougie fashion designer who could've ultimately made nothing, but was probably a hot piece of yuppie ass in her day and if her husband threw enough money her way and she was in fact halfway decent, probably also pulled in some decent money herself. Kevin's dad was never meant to be poor, but he was in the American dream in the sense that anyone who worked hard back then easily had that sort of job within their grasp.

The system is pathetically broken right now, otherwise everyone could just be like "hey you know what, pilots (or whatever) make a lot of money...I'm going to work some shit job, cover all of my living expenses on my shit job salary, have no debt, and also be able to put my way through piloting (or whatever) school!" To do anything now requires debt and way more risk. THAT is the problem. It's a lot harder now to be like "you know what, I think I'm going to be an attorney" because if it fails, it fails HARD and your life is pretty much over. Once upon a time, even if you ended up as a mostly crappy attorney, at worst it probably ended up as a wash.

This is a nasty system because when everyone was able to cover their living expenses fairly painlessly, no one really needed to pivot unless they wanted to live like Kevin's dad. Now, when people need to pivot more than ever, they can't because if they don't end up as Kevin's dad, they'll end up stocking shelves at Walmart with a PhD. and still manage to be even poorer than the people shopping there because of the risk they took to get the doctorate. None of this shit is sustainable mind you, but it probably has a little while to go before how fucked everything is dawns on people.

This post is a government funded psyop but I'll answer anyway for the sake of others who might not understand what's going on.
>Inflation do be like that. But if you have a real skill you should have gotten a raise.
Inflation (that is, the value of the dollar going down because the government prints more dollars to fund itself) puts any form of real work at a disadvantage. By definition, if you want to make money, you need to qualify for the government to print money for you on your behalf. The bank doesn't care about skills. The regulations say you have to be in the real estate industry, or something else arbitrarily deemed good for political reasons, so that's where the freshest money goes. Market demands don't matter. Besides that, investing is work. So when you hedge against inflation in some way, that means you're doing less of the work that you trained for.
>Just shop prices and stop being retarded.
This is avoiding the issue. Let's think of it in mathematical terms. Imagine someone has the same job and the same shopping habits, but inflation is either 2% or 20%. Obviously, unless they have an investing strategy built to be inflation resistant (which again, is a job in its own right) then the person is poorer in the 20% scenario.

You're just in denial that life is generally getting worse for the average person. It's all left wing damage control. None of what you're saying will make any sense when inflation is more than 50%. Inflation has barely begun. The solution isn't to look for the cheaper stuff, it's to find a better form of money that the government can't debase.

My parents bought their first home in 1987 for 35K. Three bedrooms, one bath, nice big yard. When we moved into a new home in 2000 (a 2-story historic colonial farmhouse with detached garage/workshop for 110K), they kept the old property and own it to this day. But I can buy things with them without having to convert into the very system you're attempting to circumvent. Hell, Bitcoin is more liquid than gold since you can actually use it directly at many vendors.

Interesting take. So the dollar is basically what mmos do with throwing more gold at players to make it seem like they are making more. When in reality, everyone is making less wages than they did compared to 1970 in terms of gold.

I wish the narrative was used more like this. It puts into perspective that prices in gold havent risen for buying things. Our wages just fell hard. In fact, due to removing the gold standard, we're technically have an effective 50% tax at minimum. Add income and other taxes, we're basically at 25% effective wage making.

Jesus christ.

MAN living with parents for free and WFH solve so much of this
>Remember when only one parent had to work?
Only I work, no wife or kids (wife had BPD so had to escape that, luckily no kids)
>Remember when $100,000 was a great salary?
I only make a little more and I put ~$5k/month into stocks and bonds
>Remember when the grocery store was the cheap option?
Grocery Outlet Bargain Market, I haven't spent more than $3/lb on meat in almost a year. Feel bad for plebs who don't have a good discount grocer nearby.
>Remember when careers like engineer or accountant were good?
I'm a analyst/professor, yeah I'll never attract a mate with this career but I love it and it makes enough money for me
>Remember when new cars weren’t more than your entire year’s salary?
Already have a car, got it used in 2018, so that's nice.
>Remember when you had hope?
I lost hope for finding a partner or starting a family, but hope for my own personal well-being otherwise is at an all-time high.

Sorry to everyone who has to rent/mortgage/wage and/or is married to some financial leech roastie. Sucks to suck.

No, I don't think I will. Not buying your bags. You're still holding shiny rocks that are worth less than the paper money you hate so much after fees. Get fucked.

I'm trolling because I'm tired of the demoralization threads from the same thirdies posting the same dumb cope that always devolves into the same dumb gold cope day after day? Ok.

Based. Fuck boomer rock holders. Just horde nickels with zero premium. Otherwise I’ll sell cans of spam for 1 oz of gold to starving boomers in the nursing home.
