>because they are making more profits
>the value of their storefronts and equipment are also worth more
Initially, yes - and that is exactly what we saw, if you can remember earnings in the quarters after the big inflation spikes. We saw really good numbers coming out, where companies were able to be making larger profits; in addition, we saw surplus demand for real estate (storefronts) and we saw surplus demand for durable goods (equipment)
however, after enough time passes, and the inflation becomes entrenched, it becomes problematic
now, the baker is faced with several problems
>the price of flour keeps going up
>the price of eggs keeps going up
>the price of labor (wages) keeps going up
>the price of electricity keeps going up
all of their input costs keep rising, squeezing their profit margins
in order to maintain the same margins, the baker must raise the price on the bread too. however, it reaches a breaking point - where the baker raises the price on the bread, and the other 99 individuals in the community can no longer afford the bread - so now the baker must start eating the margin decreases, due to elasticity of demand
now the baker is selling less bread overall (as higher price = less demanded) and he is also not making as much profits on the bread as his margins are getting squeezed (this is what we saw over the past several quarters)
now that the baker is making less money, he can no longer afford to pay for the baker's assistant, so he fires that employee - this happens across the entire economy in this commune, where the mechanic fires his assistant, the doctor fires his nurse, etc.
now the chef's assistant, the mechanics assistant, and the nurse all no longer have an income, so they can no longer go out and buy bread
the baker is selling even less now, he is making less profits, making less income - there are less people who want to start a bakery / want the storefront or equipment, so his property value goes down too

Wait. Guys. Guys guys guys.

I've got it.

We price assets based off risk premium, plus the risk free rate. Higher risk-free (i.e. higher bond yields), the more assets are fucked.

But what if. And here me out because this is the crazy part. But what if, we assume there is *risk* in *treasuries*.

Then today's blowout is just some shitcountry's bonds being rerated. And the risk-free rate is unchanged. Our assets are saved.

>There isn't some phantom private employer handing out a billion dollars to siphon away workers from the public sector.
Unironically, this is literally what happened. In my example, I said that the central bank of the commune gave 1 individual $100 billion. What do you think quantitative easing is? What do you think zero interest rates are?
Do you think the other 99% of the population received funds from quantitative easing? Do you think that the rest of the population was able to borrow $20 trillion at 1% interest?
What about the complete cutting of reserve requirements by the central bank during covid? Lmao.
1% of the population was unironically, literally given "$100 billion" - but it was much, much worse than that - $100 billion is 1 / 1,000th of what they were given

I cannot think or comprehend of anything more cucked than buying long-term treasuries. Honestly, think about it rationally. You are loaning your money to the Federal government for at least two years solely so they can give it to Ukraine and Israel. All the hard work you put into getting your money - wageslaving, making profitable trades, not buying too many funkopops, denying yourself avocado toast, avoiding Jeet scams on /biz/. All of it has one simple result: your money gets LOWER interest rates and is held up for longer than it would be in shorter term bonds and bills. Saved the perfect sum? Great. Who benefits? If you're lucky, a random NEET getting gibbs who had nothing to do with the way you saved your money, who gets paid by the Feds. You get fucked by high inflation every month. Ukraine, Israel, and Monstanto get the benefits of your money that came from your earnings. As an investor who buys long-term treasuries, you are LITERALLY dedicating at least two years of your investment simply to raise a sum for other people to enjoy. It is the ULTIMATE AND FINAL cuck. Think about it logically.
