And them closing causes the price to go up, so each subsequent institution that closes has to pay more and more until we hit a liquidation point. The problem is BBBYQ bankruptcy is not completed as of yet. If some sort of package were to be offered to existing shareholders then a proper accounting of shares would need to commence.
There is no magical technicality that absolves them of this fact. No more than committing murder in America and stepping across the border into Mexico. If the shareholders are compensated in any way that will IMPLICITLY create a major loss on the brokers who can sidestep that loss by forcing shorts to CLOSE. And the only way they can close is from buying out the longs. None of whom are able or willing to sell.
