There are always alternatives popping up here and there. Most eventually fade into nothingness and die. It's kind of like youtube, that even if it becomes shit, it is so big, and there is so much push and inertia behind it, that you kind of end up sticking with it.
Moreover, the internet is changing, and it's changing for good, look at what happened with the UK internet speech bill last month. You won't have sites like 12chan, or old 4chan/b. There might be some small groups in chatrooms or darknet groups, and so on, but the old dream of an internet with free speech is kind of dead, I think.
