What's with the $5k beater meme? Everyone in my immediate family drives vehicles that were purchased for less than $5k and I wouldn't call any of them a beater. I know recently used car prices have gone up, has it seriously gotten so bad that $5k can only get you a beater?

Where I’m at you’ll be lucky to find a clapped out Kia with over 165,000 miles on it for less than $8,000. Anything less than $5,000 is basically Russian roullette. Fuck, I saw an ad on Craigslist of all places a week ago for a 2001 manual Jeep with over 230,000 miles on it for fucking $10,000. Used car prices are full on clown town, especially Honda and Toyota.
