but even then you're faced with the problem that an ounce of gold takes a certain number of man-hours to produce and so does a house.

and never will that ratio change so hard that an ounce of gold takes as much work to make as a house. The ratio doesn't change, so you guys remain fucked when a man can pan an ounce of gold in a few months and build a house in a couple years.

Wow bros..
Just got delivered my big x100 RM order from my favorite german store who finally got restocked (and immediately emptied by your truly), and tears started to flow the millisecond i opened the box. But it wasn't tears of joy from seeing many happy windmills, oh no!

I've never smelled something so fucking foul and putrid in my entire life. It's like the coins were stuck in a mummy's vagoo for the past 4 millenias, in a sealed sarcophagus full of granny's used pads and socks soaked in cats' piss.

I almost puked all over it. WTF Edelmetall? If i wasn't so dependant on their cheapies, i'd put a 1 star review.
Any idea to fix this mess? I don't think soap will ever be close to do the job? Maybe a bath of bleach and white vinegar first? If any fren ever had to deal with giga-fetid smells, i need your help!

/pmg/, do you ever gift gold and silver?

A couple of my cis friends are having a baby together. She'll be born this Friday. I decided to get the baby bullion, in addition to some cash. I thought getting her a lunar coin for her zodiac animal would be nice, so I ordered a 1/10 oz gold and a 1 oz silver from the Perth Mint. The mom is a weeaboo and the dad is Korean and also a weeaboo, so I think they'll appreciate the lunar animal. Plus, I showed them some of my coins recently and they thought they were neat. The only negative is that they're Australian coins and none of us have any attachment to that country. I still think it'll make for a nice gift though.

But that's fake, this valuation is all based upon urban zoning laws. The minute the restrictions put in place by boomers to secure their monopoly over land ownership get cancelled, the prices will go down dramatically. This isn't a sustainable system.
Only time in history where the older, more decrepit your house is, the more expensive it is.
And even more absurd : the first time where the land under your feet is 90% of the value of your house, not the habitation itself.
Land used to be so incredibly cheap, young generations got stolen their most basic rights via those kiked laws.

I know fren, i literally checked every day for the past 9 months to see when they'd get restocked. It's insane. Back in 2020 it was every two week or so i could order more! If i knew back then it would vanish so fast, i'd have loaded the truck.

Ok, then acetone it will be. Speaking of white vinegar, i soaked a coin i thought was a fake in it for 2 days few weeks ago, when i got it out it lost like a third of it's weight, turned all red and was smooth like baby skin. Was indeed a fake (copper beneath most likely).

Thanks but it's fine fren, i got it in a lot of cheap junk. What was truly surprising is it was a 1914's 50c french coin, the equivalent of the US dime in size and weight. Not even a worthy date or anything.. Who the fuck bother making fake dimes lol? And by the look of it, it was a very old counterfeit, probably back when silver was still very cheap (well, more than it is now i mean).

150 years ago not one of us was alive to make any claims and even if we were, IIRC at that point the dollar was still a literal silver coin. Though I do agree that the paper scam might draw out for longer than most expect. Luckily we're buying gold and silver, so the two outcomes are either winning or not winning, but we can't really lose since our stacks will at least keep up with inflation.

Dunno about your soaked coin, but it might have leached silver into the vinegar. Some of my RMs have the copper shine through, but I don't know how that would happen (chemical clipping?). Losing 1/3 of weight seems excessive, though.

Actually, i thought they also refilled the 5RM when i passed my order, but then, no matter the amount i tried to put in my cart, i got this lovely pop up showing. Hey basedbob, I had rediscovered and posted this a few months ago for you and panman but don't think either of you were in the thread. It's a promotional sulfide gold ore sample box from 1937 (wishes the recipient a happy new year and prosperous 1938) from a mining company that controlled about 6 goldmines in Colorado between ~1935-WW2. Judging from the interesting letter I think they were a ploy to help sell stock, just imagine how many more shares of Bayhorse would have been hoovered up here if Graeme sent /pmg/ cute boxes of ore kek. I haven't looked hard but can't find anything else quite like it and figure items like this are pretty scarce, probably worth a few bones to Colorado gold mining history autists. Ah alright thanks for the assessment man, If they're worth so little I may go beyond just keeping this one and try collecting others too. Biggest Bob Sr.'s 1890s promotional samples would be better but the 1933-1942 mining era is old enough to be interesting. A bit more anthropologically dynamic than just a plain ore/mineral specimen.

but at auction I'd expect it to go for little over shipping. Personally I'd keep it. If you want to buy more depression era mining scam papers I'd be happy to give you some. I have a pile.

Goldbacks were designed mostly to appeal to those who believe in the worthlessness or at least imminent collapse of local gov't-issued monies (fiat).
Their cost prices the gold content at about 1.8 times spot. If you're looking to stack, there are much better buys. If you like the art and novelty, great. They can also tessellate to enrich a background with genuine gold for a reasonable cost.

This exact scenario applies to the purchasing power of bank credit. No. Not for the masses. They probably will remain enslaved to an increasingly authoritarian and smothering beast system. But it might for the ones wanting to exist outside of the (((system))). Either it be criminals, richfags, prostitutes, autonomous communities, taxes dodgers... The need for untraceable & fungible currencies will always be there, and once (((they))) make cash illegal, something will inevitably have to fill the void. PMs have these advantage + the intrinsic value.

For silver it's even better, as the technologic era our masters are so dependent upon to control us heavily rely on it. The commodity side could alone push the prices sky high. Of course, this is a double edged sword, as their craving could mutate into desperation and trigger plain confiscation/extreme taxation. But even that would only buy them few years eventually. The only sustainable option for mankind is to either :
>find new deposits
Not easy, as silver tend to aggregate toward the surface and become rarer the deeper we dig, and the surface spots are known since a long time, but a lot of ancient mines not economically viable in the XXth c. could be exploited again
>recycle it more efficiently
Doable, it's yet to determine at which price point the incentive to recycle is enough to justify the cost, new technics could make it cheaper
>replace silver with other materials
Theorically possible i guess, but with the ever increasing miniaturization of electronic components, silver's conductivity, lowest contact resistance, and far more important : extreme ductility, will become always more sought after characteristics in high tech/nanotech.
Silver is the most ductile material known to man after gold, which is even slightly more ductile (1 gram can be stretched in a 2 km long wire and still not break), but gold is too expensive to be realistically used in tech in high amounts like silver is.
All this make me doubt we could find any alternative anytime soon, just like for copper.

Most people that have an interest in these matters know that the FED, fiat and inflation does what it's supposed to do and that there is no better known alternative: keep the prices stable within reason so long term planning becomes possible, keep inflation over 0 and below 2 to ensure money velocity stays high, and react to hard crisis in whatever way needed to reach the above goals again. Because if you don't reach those goals, everything else becomes meaningless.
That is why all economic communities copy this, including BRICS.
I suspect none of you really read any of the science that lead us here, but you feel something is wrong, right? You can feel it! It must crumble now! NOW! But it never does.

Gold and silver were never really currency as such. A currency is a unit of account and even in antiquity the units of account were drachmas, denarii, etc. These were based on silver and the coins contained it, but ultimately they were derivatives of silver. If gold and silver were used currency in themselves the unit of account would be weight of pure metal, in grams, ounces, or whatever. Like a pack of eggs would be 2g of silver or something, for example. Doesn't necessarily mean different standardized physical manifestations (gov coins) couldn't exist for easier trading, but they wound have face value expressed in metal content. I would welcome this because it's as honest as it gets. The British pound as originally defined is the closest implementation of such a thing. It was just a pound of silver, plain and simple.
If you mean when PMs are going to money again, then the answer is they still are. Plebs just don't understand.

>exif posts it sideways.
I'm not an expert on phone imagery, but I'm fairly certain exif has nothing to do with orientation. Your phone *locally* stores metadata containing orientation info. When you edit a picture and resave it, you're wiping the association with the metadata, or you're creating a new image with no metadata (saving as...).
When you post a phone pic, the metadata does not go with it, so 4chan posts the image as the original array stripped of metadata is arranged.
exif info also gets stripped by 4chan on most boards. /ph/ is an exception: images get posted with the exif.
You can prove me wrong (or right) about orientation by taking two pictures with the phone oriented differently, posting them to /ph/, and seeing what the result is. I for one would be curious to know.

Windows does have a "rotate" option in the files' properties. If you edit a 'rotated' image with Paint, it will look as windows has rotated it. But if you view it with a no-native app such as ACDSee, it will display the array as it truly is.

Someone else correct me if I'm wrong, but this is my general understanding --

Top left number: Silver ounces sitting in a comex vault waiting to actively trade
Top right: Silver that is ostensibly in the system, but owned by big banks. Can be transfered to the left column if said banks are willing to settle for cash. (They don't like to do this for obvious reasons but may fall on their sword if the left column gets too low.)
Bottom left: Total Silver ounces owned by the Comex
Bottom right: Total leveraged paper contracts that banker's use to play their paper games. Each contract is for 5x 1000 oz comes bars.

125,750 contracts X 5000 oz = 628,750,000 paper oz or roughly 3x the total silver that actually exists in the comex. Or about 15x the amount people are actually willing to trade. If everyone decided to trade their paper in overnight, the price of Silver would multiply 15x at a bare minimum. (More, because scarcity would lead to a bidding frenzy.)

Followup: Interestingly, GIMP recognizes a Windows-rotated image as having rotation "exif metadata", and offers a choice of how it should be viewed.
To truly rotate images,. I've installed a free File Explorer plug-in that offers "Lossless Rotation" of images, which physically rearranges image the array to avoid such bullshit.

Very based coin frogbro, how did you obtain that one? I don't have any proper Maltese coins.

In numischeapie news I've told you before how I've been having my dad buy for me all the German silver from the scrap bin at his LCS for melt value (same LCS where I bought that collection of 79 ancients recently) and while there were no based windmills yesterday he got me 2 .500 silver Weimar Reichsmarks, the best being this rather scarce 1927 F (Stuttgart) 1 Reichsmark for whatever melt value is, around $1.90. Now look what this 'lil bastard is worth!

https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide/world/germany-weimar-republic-reichsmark-km-44-1925-1927-cuid-1130129-duid-1319581

I saw a cleaned and lower grade example that sold for over $130+shipping on ebay, this one is definitely better so might be a $200 coin for less than $2, feels good to have access to a LCS that lets awesome deals pass through so often. It's not terribly appealing personally so I'll flip it to plebs who don't know how to do anything but pay retail and wait for a good deal on a Weimar 5 Reichmark Oak tree coin, one of my favorite designs ever.

simply put, the know how to do it was lost and only really started gaining public interest again in the early 2000s. There were always small groups of prospectors / old timers who were keeping the tradition alive but loads of info on different regions just dried up and vanished.
Just going and panning wont produce much, you have to actually find a worth while pay layer of gravel, or a good area of bedrock to work. Staking the ground and figuring out how to economically mechanical mine is the way to go, but will be nearly impossible in most places due to regulation.
