>Sure, and those energy equities (companies) are doing TERRIBLY for the large part. It is a high capex endeavor.
I just provided some examples that are doing amazingly well. I could also mention some refineries I hold. Most energy companies are dogshit in the same sense that most companies around the world operating in every industry are dogshit. Bad management.
High capex is not inherently bad. Semiconductors are high capex, lol.

The reason energy stocks are reasonable purchases today, last year, and particularly the year before that is really quite simple: Valuation.
A growth stock needs to grow organically at 20% perpetually to provide a 20% IRR. Some cheap overlooked commodity at 5x full-cycle earnings merely needs to pay out their profits to achieve the same.

Honestly I'm glad retards like you can't understand this. If energy stocks rerated back to 10-20x, I'd have to sell and take my one time profits and move on and find another play. Instead, I can happily compound my portfolio at higher rates indefinitely while morons like you pretend I'm holding some kind of bearish hedge.

Sure, you can cherry pick a few equities that have done well but the sector in general and most oil bulls in general have been slaughtered and iteratively been proven wrong. The sector is just not used for stable shareholders, but rather as a hedge. The big issue for publicly traded energy equities,is the market is discounting orderly liquidation of the sector. That’s the biggest headwind for price appreciation. Plenty of money to be made in private market deals in regards to ROI.

Anyone who has traded the oil sector equities knows this. Oil producers keep saying divi's are coming but then they issue more stock and increase debt, they need to show divi increases now for shareholders to stop fucking off. Cdn EP's have a history of over promising and under delivering.

With spot prices up so much, and equities are underperforming is the way of market sending signal to the producers don't even try to ramp up the production. To maintain the shareholder value, they have to reduce debt and do buybacks, market is saying that we can sell you out at any moment.

You are demonstrating most people on Wall St regard energy investors as childish and why energy is pumped and dumped as a quick hedge. The ability of energy companies to pay out profits as dividends depends on their financial health and the stability of their earnings.

>You are demonstrating most people on Wall St regard energy investors as childish and why energy is pumped and dumped as a quick hedge. The ability of energy companies to pay out profits as dividends depends on their financial health and the stability of their earnings.
This statement is particularly hilarious in light of the 80-90% or worse declines across most of wallstreet's favorite tech stocks these past two years. Literal ponzis being dumped on retail.
There's a general market desire to pump and dump everything, because volatility is how traders make profit. You can call energy a hedge in that sense, but tech is also just a hedge against the endless flood of liquidity. Trading is not the same as investing.

>Tech is a ponzi scheme, the era of oil is coming back. Oil is a REAL business
Or something to that effect you know they're a fucking clueless dipshit. The vast majority of our equity indexes are tech.

Tech represents 30% of the S&P weighting while energy represents less than 10%. Oil far lower than that. Technological advancements in energy extraction and production, such as hydraulic fracturing (fracking) and horizontal drilling, have increased the supply of oil and natural gas as well.

Stop being a fucking bagholder and clinging onto an energy sector that is clearly used in times of market volatility as a market hedge.

Nobody gives a shit that you, some random 4channer, found an oil equity that has had good returns to shareholders over the years.
Most oil equities are NOT like that. Most are dogshit. Most of the time, oil equities only go up when exogenous market circumstances, like market beta, induces a bid for these companies.

Oil production is difficult to ramp up and difficult to ramp down. Demand can quickly outpace supply but supply can also quickly outpace demand. If we truly are headed for a recession, crude will drop hard. At which point there is little to no profit in oil. It is a very risky in that regard.

If they pause there won't be anything worth buying in a year. At minimum it needs to be 25 bepis and a "yeah we might pause if necessary moving forward but more hikes might be required". The single only reason I haven't fucked off to a cabin in the woods with my shotgun and my dog is the fed actually started raising rates and telling people to eat shit and die which is their fucking job.

>Nobody gives a shit that you, some random 4channer, found an oil equity that has had good returns to shareholders over the years.
I'm pretty happy with the money I've made. I give much less of a shit about your retarded opinions than that money I've made. There is some tiny care though, in as much that I would love to see this general succeed. Morons like you sadly block the path to gains. The reality is that everyone in this general could've gotten rich off oil/coal these past few years, but instead most of you just churn a breakeven portfolio or remain broke throwing away your monthly gambling funds on trash like BOIL, low probability options plays, and whatever profitless tech pump becomes the meme of the month. I get that most companies are dogshit, most oil companies especially, but you seem to struggle comprehending that you can just... Not buy the dogshit?

A recession will hit useless SAAS products harder than any physical products this time around. There's a lot of bloat there and a lot of hope that it'll just magically resolve. Many companies were wounded in the stimmy bubble collapse, but have not yet fully died. We're now seeing a second wave of SPACs/IPOs as VCs try to silently escape.
The 2020 covid lockdown was the most extreme bearish event possible for oil producers, and a few of them did go bankrupt. For the most part, debt issues have largely been resolved since then due to inflation and it's unlikely such a negative outcome will reoccur for the foreseeable future. Naturally, oil pricing is cyclical but that is priced into the valuation. There's also an implication that oil has a short life before green energy transition. I'm not sure why this is so difficult for you to understand. Semiconductors just put in a massive cyclical bottom and yet the stocks trade near highs. Cyclicality is not inherently bearish long term. As long as a company survives and exceeds the pain of the lows with gains during the good years, profits will be made.

Rate hikes were needed. More hikes are needed but they have to go slow about it to keep people from shitting their pants and dumping the whole market. It's entirely to fuck people over under the guise of protecting them but there is some small argument to be made that there needs to be a barrier to entry to daytrade. You're 13x more likely to walk out of a casino having made a profit than you are to make a profit daytrading and the less trades you make the better you do statistically. I still think it's absolute bullshit and they should just have a big fuck-off "click here if you understand you're going to lose everything" waiver but I get why it exists. I do think they could at least double the number of trades it'd take to hit PDT that way people could do it a little bit.

I would say student debt doesn't matter but consumer spending is 70% of our economy and personal savings are at a record low already, with credit card debt at record highs

basically we tried to keep this free ride going as long as possible and now we're taking the easy way out which is inflating it all the way

BUT
the US dollar is at record lows for central bank reserves as well
it was much easier to shrug off inflation when 70-80% of all bonds/bills were american dollars but now its only 58%

and that doesn't count the massive increases to hold, we're close to going under 50%
