Would you rather buy a 500k House, or receive $50,000 a month for the rest of your life through investments?

>> No.56137050

For context, I saved 500k through years of wage slaving, I'm at the point where I can buy a house, or continue investing the money and returning 10% a year.

I think buying a house is a poor choice. Mowing lawns, fixing appliances, replacing roofs, etc - a house seems like a lot of work and money for something that wont appreciate by 50k a year.

Meanwhile, I can guarantee a 10% return on my investment, and gain $50,000 a year.

I don't think homes will appreciate at 50k a year now that we are entering a recession soon. ( Even the top 10% of earners in my country cannot qualify for a mortgage any more ) For that reason, I think I'm going to keep my investments and travel the world, do you think this is the right choice?

>> No.56137062

Oh my messed up the OP, I meant "receive 50k a YEAR" not a month.

I might be a retarded rentoid, but now seems like a pretty risky time to buy a house.

I would not blow that on a house right now. Stay liquid and wait for a big correction while earning 5.5% interest in a money market

While the money has some value I would buy a house soon. Have a tool? Use the tool. Years down the line and that 50k a year might not afford you an apartment at all. GL and Godspeed.

How do you "guarantee" a 10%/year return? What makes you so sure it will keep paying that out?

Without getting too specific and ruining my golden goose, I trade in very stable futures contracts that return 10% almost risk free in perpetuity

I rather do enjoy receiving almost $4500 a month without lifting a finger, but im wondering if Im making a mistake not just going all in on a house instead.

Are houses appreciating faster than 50k a year? And if so, how are normal people supposed to afford them?

You shouldn't outright buy a house or use all of your money on a house. A 500k house while you only have 500k is out of your price range and if you do get a house you should get a mortgage.

I have a job that pays $135k a year, so I would be able to cover bills, but mainly I want to QUIT WORKING so I'm thinking id rather opt for $50k a year and travel, then buy some house and hope it appreciates any further than it already has in the short term.

Homes have doubled in price in the last 3 years, and I think that was a major anomaly

Nothing is guaranteed, if the market absolutely self-destructs, I could be down 10-20% in one year sure, but that would be such a freak scenario - there would be massive opportunities to fall back on if that occurred.

>>56139141
10% of 50k is 5k a year, that is not a lot of money, you would not get rich quick. But that is roughly how it started out for me a some years ago :)

Honestly it sounds like I should stick to keeping my money invested, I don't need a house - and I suspect there will be a housing correction in the future. And if not, I'm not going to pay whatever the cost of a house is, I'll just rent a place anywhere in the world, anytime on a moments notice.

Thanks everyone, wishing you all well.

buy a house if u don't have one already. house is place to live.. u also save money not paying rent anymore. house has value of place where u live just have fun and enjoy ur money u may get hit by car in 2 months and die who knows.. buy a nice house and enjoy it

people in this board are forever rentoids cuckhold slaves for landlord so they make "buying house" or owning house bad and make renting "good" in order to cope with the fact that they will never have house
