I can't speak for the others but imagine they are similar, been living in Bulgaria since 2021 and it's been great. Alot of ups: fast internet, low cost of living, cheap housing, cozy architecture.

Assuming you have an interest in learning the local language (even just alphabet/phrases) and are willing to put up with the culture shock I highly recommend it. You'll have a flat 10% tax rate for all income in Bulgaria.

Feel free to ask me any questions I'm around for another few hours before going out to eat.

Bulgaria.
Little known fact, even amongst Bulgarians, but freelancers don't pay 10%, they pay 7.5%.
It's technically 10%, but 25% of that is regarded as "business expenses" without needing to prove any of it - no need to keep receipts, it's just applied by default.
Of course, this means you can't write off legit expenses, but for most freelancers, business expenses are 0-1% of their income, so a 7.5% tax on revenue is pretty hard to beat.

>>56126475
Bro, check the freelancer 7.5% tax thingie with a competent accountant, unless you're writing off tons of business expenses.
So many people in Bulgaria pay more than they need to, it's absurd.

Could you give a few examples for the culture shock?

I am currently stuck in Germany, but am looking at options and was thinking of trying to go to Dubai but I don't like the warm weather and lack of nature there.
Is it possible to survive there without initially knowing the language?

Oh, just saw this.
Could you give some info on the process of moving there and the real cost of living there as a NEET who doesn't go outside?

How strict are they with the cultural differences?
Do you need a car if you live there?
Can you import international goods and what are the limitations?

>> No.56128462

>>56128409
Nope.
Gov was considering some 9% thing but not sure if it passed, that was long after I moved to Dubai.
If you live off millions in crypto, you might want to form a company in some offshore jurisdiction with 0% on corporate taxation for crypto trading, and then throw yourself some invoices for software consultancy, in order to get the 7.5%.
Even then you need trusted people offshore, and Cyprus doesn't work anymore, so it's a mess, wouldn't recommend.

>Could you give some info on the process of moving there and the real cost of living there as a NEET who doesn't go outside?
Rent is expensive AF compared to the West.
If you want reasonable living standards, the cheapest apartments you can get are some 40kAED/year ones in Al Barsha, or ideally a 55k one in Barsha Heights.
The biggest cultural shock for me was that I actually had to stop going out.
There's no streets, everything is 25km away and only accessible via car.
Everything gets delivered to you, and it's usually way cheaper than going out to buy it yourself.
It's somewhat ideal for a NEET who doesn't exit his home.
But basic expenses are 20-50% higher than in Europe imo (granted, I haven't seen post inflation prices in EU).

If you want to check for yourself, go to bayut.com for apartments, and kibsons.com for grocery prices.
Internet is also crazy expensive, sth like 700 AED/month.
Banks are not crypto-friendly, but everything is cash-friendly, and getting cash for you crypto is simple. It's inconvenient not to use a card, but if your entire income is from crypto you'll have to learn to deal with it.

No other real cultural shock for me tbqh. I live in one of the few places that have greenery, that helps. People are nicer than in the Balkans (that applies to every place on earth). Every service you get from a low-qualification worker is crazy cheap (eg deliveries). There is literally 0 crime. In theory there's 4 men for every woman, but if you exclude Indians things get level.
There's no drugs in school, parents are more conservative, and they raise good girls, but you'll never be able to find them, as all they do is stick to their school/work social circle. If you go out to socialise you'll only meet euro/aussie golddiggers. I'd usually recommend Dubai for married men.

Thank you!
It's a bit conflicting, because it would be a great option for the next bull run and as a base for traveling, but I recently started going out for daily for walks and haven't used a car since I got my driver's license over a decade ago.

I was thinking of trying to rent something cheaper in the nearby city of RAK that I would use part time to get a tax residency after 3 months.
And I need to do something about my driving skills...

Bulgaria seems like another option, but I would like to avoid a culture and language shock.
However from your perspective you seem to prefer Dubai to Bulgaria.
Was it mainly because of the taxes, or because of the nicer people in Dubai?

>> No.56129127

>>56128283
Great point actually, I always just took the 10% rate for granted (dumb move in hindsight reading about the nuances). Thanks for the heads up Bulgar-bro.

>>56128398
Reading back culture shock was probably a strong term but there are definitely cultural differences: people drive like dogshit, people are warm and friendly (being from an Anglosphere country this was a change for me lmao), quality of the public infrastructure (BDZ trains/buses), layout/walkability of cities. Alot of these might not be as big of a change coming from a European country vs Anglosphere though.

You can 100% get by with just German or English, both is a plus. It might depend though on what city for what quality of life you get comparatively. I'm in Varna which being large meant no difficulties at all, but for instance having travelled to Tarnovo where had to use Google Translator a few times.

Depending on what you're looking for though there are also other countries in that region with favorable visa policies, I'm actually due to end up in Montenegro for a digital nomad focused resort project so familiar with the rules there, very lax and easy to immigrate to despite being non-EU. Ultimately I'd recommend most of the Balkans really just boils down to weather preference.

That would work wonders for a NEET, ngl

Cabs are cheap af. I usually book a cab at night to drive me to the Marina, I walk for 5km and book one back from Bluewaters island, costs don't add up to a whole lot
>Bulgaria seems like another option, but I would like to avoid a culture and language shock.
Apart from randos on the street being shitty people, Bulgaria is pretty epic.
It's close to a perfect place, apart from having mafia around, but the mafia is afraid of foreign embassies so they stick to extorting locals.
>Was it mainly because of the taxes, or because of the nicer people in Dubai?
Take my last answer as a hint. Taxes are a nice bonus though. The nicer people are just the cherry on top.

Thanks!
I can imagine a life in Dubai/RAK now.
I am trying to engineer my future life before moving. This helps a lot.
The 2 remaining topics I need to address are what to do during summer, like going to another colder country, and what to do with my Japanese otaku goods I may not be able to take there and that I import occasionally.
Having a second residence in an European country would solve that issue.

Bulgaria for a second residence might be a solution, although I associate Nexo with them and worry about being attacked because of my crypto holdings.
My private data keeps being leaked through hacks...

Thank you!
Knowing what I am looking for is a difficult question.
I don't necessarily look forward to moving again, but I will have to soon because Germany is incompatible with my life plans.
I am trying to find a long term solution for the next decade.
I liked the nature and good weather here, the more direct and honest culture, and the previously low prices for food before Germany committed suicide with their pipeline self sabotage. But the taxes are just theft and the German ecology and immigration insanity is not going in the right direction.
Getting taxed double my income despite getting constantly fucked by stupid tax rules which decrease my profits and make me do mistakes is shit.
What's currently keeping me here is the 0% tax on long term crypto bag holding, but this rule caused me to bag hold a lot of my profits.
The other reason is my mother being a few hours away from me.

I have Hungarian origins so I thought of trying to use that as a setup for a second residence to make it easier to meet my family there, but it does not seem like I could avoid taxes this way and they have an exit tax now.
There is unfortunately no perfect solution, but maybe if Hungary leaves the EU the situation would improve there.
I want to profit from the next bull run with 0% taxation on my bags if possible for the next 12-24 months and then to have a solution which allows me to manage my wealth without stupid taxation rules like in Germany making it impossible to hedge while keeping a proximity to my family in Europe with the possibility to visit them more often, and maybe move my mother to a different country closer to me.

If I focus on the crypto short term efficiency Portugal or Dubai seem like the best options.
Maybe I can even time the moment I leave Germany perfectly to max out their 0% taxation.
But I will later have to find a way to improve on the other aspects.
I don't think I can live happily without being near nature.

>what to do during summer
There's plenty of air-conditioned places to go.
I couldn't move this summer.
However, everything is much cheaper during the summer. Kids go to Legoland for free, every fun air conditioned place is 50% off, the annual bloodwork that would otherwise cost AED2000+ cost me AED100, swimming at night is super fun, you lie on the lounger wet, and 3 minutes later you're dry. The Italian all you can eat costs 60AED instead of 120, that sort of stuff.
> like going to another colder country
Obviously, this is your best option.
> and what to do with my Japanese otaku goods
I don't see why you wouldn't be able to move them. I moved a synthesizer collection here, including a big ole expensive Moog and a Prophet.
>Having a second residence in an European country would solve that issue.
You're all set then.
>Bulgaria for a second residence might be a solution, although I associate Nexo with them and worry about being attacked because of my crypto holdings.
The government prosecutors literally broke their doors screaming "GIVE US THE USBS GIVE US THE USBS" in a lame attempt to steal all their crypto, not knowing about multisig wallets. They're corrupt af, I'd advise you to keep your crypto in a foreign company before you move to Bulgaria.
> My private data keeps being leaked through hacks
Yeah, been there. Your data is also not private after Nexo, if you had a profile there, the government prosecution, aka the mafia, is abusing the personal data of people there.

Nope, we're not psychopaths and we want a fairer world.
You think I didn't have easy access to corruption as a semi-wealthy man in Bulgaria?
I could buy officials alongside their entire families, but if you don't have dark triad characteristics, this isn't attractive.
I hope you understand.
