This but unironically. First I tried cutting out carbs slowly and then all together, and felt like shit all the time and couldn’t sleep to save my fucking life. Then I switched it up and just started tracking my macros to a T. Did the little inbody thing, and got exactly what I should be consuming (including 246g of carbs per day) and I’ve lost 41 pounds since January and I don’t even work out. Just walk a lot like 3ish miles per day at work. So yes, you need carbs. I swear to god people who talk shit about carbs are trolling because I feel like absolute shit when I cut them

happy learning anon. Don't know what the book holds but here are some key things to note:

>don't focus on earnings; FCF is what matters because it's a capital intensive industry and you have to account for the large CAPEX
>EV/DACF is a good valuation indicator; lower quality companies tend to command lower multiples and a lower multiple may indicate the company has lower margins or a tendency of making poor acquisitions for example
>take finding, development and acquisition costs (per boe) into account when considering breakevens; add the 3y or 5y average 2P FD&A per boe to the total costs per boe produced to get the total corporate cost per boe
>take note of corporate decline rates or type curves; high declines mean more drilling to keep production volumes up
>familiarize yourself with the company's hedges and corporate product mix (heavy/medium/light crude, condensate, NGLs, natgas)
>make sure the company has a good core land package with access to markets (infrastrcture) to accommodate reserve and production growth

OP imagine actually reminded me that back in january 2020 people were saying "stock up on shit because shortages will drive prices through the roof!" and now prices are way up anyway despite shortages, but stocking up wouldn't have mattered because no one could have forseen that the massive inflation would still exist 3.5 years later into the future and counting.

not 100% of the time (but you could argue on a technicality still 100% of the time) as around 1 year ago we had hot CPI 2 days before decision, told Timiraos to let everyone know - however, Fed funds futures then changed to where it was priced in, in a single day, so that when it did happen, it had been 'priced in' the day before
so yes, FedWatch is accurate - but it can change, radically, in 1 hour, if the right things are said by the right people

The "we'll see two more rate hikes in the remainder of 2023" expectations has spontaneously vanished from, for whatever reason.
I don't know why people think the FED will not stick to that plan, especially with inflation re-accelerating (as I expected) and the employment numbers printing new ATH after ATH (they actually do, check picrelated).
There is no reason except
>why muh stock not at ATH!?!? FED DO SOMETHING NOW!!!
for the FED to even just pause.

As it turned out. The current FED funds level is "neutral" at best, maybe even still "accommodating" to this economy. Certainly not "restrictive."

There are three FED meetings left on their calendar for 2023. So I'm still expecting rate hikes at two out of these three.
Preferably a hike at the next one, since "experts" had been oblivious to inflation re-accelerating and don't account for that fact in their ridiculous expectations (which now even include rate cuts in the coming months. lol, lmao even)

Fucking hell. What a day. We visited my in-laws. They up and decided to take us out to lunch. Which hey free food so who am I to turn that down so away we went. On the way back we almost fucking died. Her mother was driving, her dad was in the passenger seat while we were in the back. Anyway out comes a deer right in front of us. The SUV was doing I dunno 60 so yeah I was holding on pretty good to something expecting the worst. Thankfully we avoided disaster, barely that is. Then later that afternoon we overspent at the KR getting stocked up for the next 2 weeks.

a lot of it is gaining enough experience in the sector to have better context on how good the results are in relation to peers. In the end you don't have to beat the whole market, it's enough that you beat most of your competition. That aside I generally focus on how well the company is following through on its guidance and I use some basic ratios like EV/DACF or EBITDA margin and all that jazz. I want to hear about the company's progress for the quarter and some shilling from the CEO with things put into human language helps sometimes. I want to see the company is still able to keep doing buybacks or paying dividends and execute as planned going forward too.

ill learn about those and how the company presents that info then. I swing trade and day trade maybe 10 trades per day based on technicals, but because I dont know any business fundamentals I have to play a game of looking through tickers of random shit then do TA to find a good longer term trade. I wish I had a broader understanding to know when to look for opportunities in different industries and markets like how other anons here mention cyclicality and money moving into different industries based on fund rates and all that macro stuff

>> No.56123610

>>56123563
Commodity sectors have fun cyclicality. For example potash (and therefore fertilizer producers like NTR and MOS) has been declining for over a year and is probably trying to find a bottom soon. I plan to buy NTR once potash looks to have bottomed. Though natgas also affects ammonia fertilizer prices since ammonia is producer from natty using the Haber-Bosch process, so if natty is going up NTR might not care about potash not having bottomed yet. Gold miners are also starting to look attractive again methinks, gold staying fairly strong but equities at or close to 3y lows.

Help! I just inherited $175k.
I got $70k in a brokerage and $100k in an inherited IRA. I got to take the IRA out half now and half in January for tax reasons. I got a financial advisor who's going to convert the inherited to a Roth IRA, but other than that I have no idea what I'm doing. Should I just let him manage it? He charges 1% yearly in quarterly instalments. As far as I can figure, this means I'm trusting him to beat 6% return because I could put in in a HYSA for free. Also I got that $70k that's half in a vanguard Wellington and half in a money market.

Brokers let you have and manage Roth IRAs in them. You just have to pick one you like out with that functionality. As far as transferring your IRA from your guy's custody into your brokerage, yeah have fun with that I have no advice.

Open a brokerage account on your own with your own money and play with it. Make sure to contact them and ask if they have inactivity fees (you don't want those). Ask your professional if his annual expense ratio is great than VOO (0.03%). It's much higher. Ask your broker if he has outperformed the SP 500 over the past year, 5 year, 10 year, and 20 year. He hasn't. He'll give you some nonsense about bonds, volatility, etc. Your focus is long term growth. Assuming you put the 175K into SP 500 ETFs over the next 20 years (10% annual growth) you'll have pic related. And that's with no added funds.

I'd be more inclined to take you seriously if you didn't include that meaningless chart. You don't know how long I'm holding the shit, what I'm going to contribute to, or how the market will perform next year, key alone for the next 20.
>>56124625
You think I'm just going to take some asshole's word for it?

I looked at reddit. The majority agree that this is a rip off. There are a few good counter arguments. I'm not going to bother listing them, but there is a sound minority opinion.

My take away is this:

At $100k, .75% for three quarters comes to $750. If we label this as financial planning I'm getting quite a bargain. Since I got to wait until January I might as well let him ride. I'll get to track his service and performance for two quarters. There's no need to interrogate him. If I don't like what I see, I'll have the Roth IRA transferred to a Fidelity account or something and go it alone. I'll have paid $750 for some services and an educational experience. Who knows? He might beat it or dodge the dip of there is one.

wealth managers aren't there to make money for you; they're there to follow a script handed down to them from higher ups and swindle the masses.

You will learn nothing from them because they won't explain a lick of their decisions, and if they do, that will practically give their expertise away which makes them useless because you could theoretically do it yourself.

Imagine thinking a pedestrian wealth manager, who any regular person could access, actually outperforming and making gains for their "clients". Wow, that guy would be so fucking rich; hell he could do it himself and actually not require a job!

I'll give you one freebie. VOO may reach 350-360. Slowly put money into it, but when it hits that range, put as much as you can.

>STUDENT-LOAN RESTART THREATENS TO PULL $100 BILLION OUT OF CONSUMERS’ POCKETS - WSJ

>The restart of student-loan payments could divert up to $100 billion from Americans’ pockets over the coming year, leaving consumers squeezed and some of the nation’s largest retailers fearing a spending slowdown.

>Starting Oct. 1, tens of millions of student-loan borrowers will need to make payments averaging between $200 and $300 each month. The payments will mark the first time that borrowers have had to make good on their loans since the Education Department instituted a pause in March 2020. In the interim, they spent the money on televisions, travel, new homes and thousands of other products. That spending is one reason the economy has remained resilient in recent years, despite a surge in interest rates.

>What the resumption of loan payments means for the broader economy, however, is up for debate, and at least two groups watching closely disagree. Target, Walmart and other retailers that depend on discretionary spending are concerned. Economists, on the other hand, say the renewed payments are a relatively small problem for the more than $18 trillion in annual U.S. consumer spending

I want to get the house in selling condition because I really want to live somewhere else and the stuff I need will cost more if I put it off.

What I really want to do is liquidate everything and buy a Fudd lair prepper bunker, but that's unrealistic. I hate the system, I know things (my brother's boss is on Epstein's flight logs, not kidding) and I want no part of this clown world. I left my family's culture and adopted a blue collar wagie lifestyle. I've remained poor, ignorant, and happy for over twenty years. I wasn't kidding, I hate this money, but I love my wife and if I don't handle this right and something happens to me...

Anyway, I'm going to see what the guy says and yeah, he's a salesman. I'll most likely let him have his $750 for three quarters and quietly move it to Schwab or Fidelity in March.
I think I just wanted him to handle it because every since I saw that vanguard balance under my name I've been physically sick. I know I'm being dramatic, but I've been up most the night and I hate the world.
The thing I hate the most is that there's literally nothing I could buy at any price that could make me feel better. It's so stupid. You'd think that I could buy some electronics or bling or gear and feel good for even a minute, but we're sitting here talking about 1% of basically nothing and even if I got good returns then so what? If I stop working I'll go crazy and die. I got nothing I really want or need. You could say it's for emergency protection but nothing prevents that. Doctors kill you as likely as fix you. No matter how much you have they can fuck you over. All I've got is something to fight or worry about.

Sorry for the blog post. I'm assuming the thread hit the bump limit already anyway, I didn't check.

They used to call them "panics." Depression was the original euphemism. I strongly suspect these are engineered as wealth transfer events and not naturally occurring, or at least they are controlled and exaggerated to maximize wealth transfer.

But what do I know?

A wealth manager will never tell you they can beat the alpha. They are there to help you beat the beta on mainly things like taxes. It's 10x easier to just call up your manager and ask for money than to go through your portfolio and try to find the best stock to pick to sell to minimize the tax impact.

When everyone has money to spend on goods and services this is bullish because it makes profits go up.

When nobody has money to spend on goods and services this is bullish because companies fail which consolidates market power into the hands of a few surviving monopolies and makes profits go up.

retail investors don't move the market
Investment banks etc. only move their money on fed data/press conferences and right now algos are programmed to interpret any fed news as bullish
>"another 25bps? Oh boy that's bullish because it's the last hike"
>"they hiked again despite us being 100% sure last time that they won't hike again? well that's bullish because this is the last time for sure"
