There is a youtube video somewhere about a company that was created to "grade" old school classic video games and such. The problem is all these people are doing is pump and dumping their own inventory. They did the slurping a long time ago and are now trying to create a grading scale and trademark to sell these items to retards who want to overpay.
That's not to say these things are valuable, it's just that any premium you could ever get in owning them has already been collected by someone else. All that is left is time find people who have a hole in their pocket willing to splurge on a piece of nostalgia. They could very well be worth $50-100 but no way in hell they go higher. The only reason they can even command those prices is because the American Dollar is still commanding a massive value and sucking the world's resources into our nation. The second there are severe hard times you better believe people will be unloading these luxury collectibles at the drop of a hat.

Hey Frogfren, I just got back from an estate sale about 1 mile from my house, besides other cheapie antiques not pictured I got a minimally used and perfectly functional Garrett Ace 250 metal detector for $20, costs over $200 new without accessories so a fair price for a spare i can lend to my dad and frens.

I mined out the jewelry area, everything was $4 each so I grabbed a 13.6g sterling Harley Davidson ring which might be worth flipping instead of just scrapping, then 2 10 karat gold bits weighing 1.5g for another $8. Only about $48 in total melt value but the price was right.

Probably my best score at just $3 was a leather-bound and gilt-edge 270 page book with hundreds of pictures showing the properties, power plants, mills etc that were part of the Pacific Gas & Electric system in California in 1911, very cool to look at. I need to research more but it seems quite rare and likely valuable, rich califags love blowing lots of money on rare and interesting antique items like this. Happy hunting and good luck scooping the cheapies!

I do think that some collector premium is valid and real. But for the most part much of someone's ability to collect derives not only from rarity and quality of the collector item, but also the PPP of the citizens who are doing the buying. The average person in this nation is impoverished and most of our purchasing power is contingent upon government spending as well as bank credit and the purchasing power of the dollar. If any of these things get rugpulled we will all be materially poorer. Some collectibles can survive that environment. Others will not. They will be seen as luxuries no one can afford.
The real litmus test is to consider how many ounces of silver/gold you give up to acquire said collectible and juxtapose it to a hypothetical scenario where PMs rise considerably. If we could safely assume that even in the worst case scenario of economic turmoil silver only does a 10x, would that environment be conducive to luxury collectibles also doing a 10x? That level of scarcity and impoverishment for the basic necessities leaves little room for people to spend $1000 on a VHS. Let alone $10,000. We've already seen price action of Rhodium and Palladium to know what these underdeveloped resources can truly do.

I just read a book called "the great taking" which basically makes the case that in Europe and America the brokers are selling "security entitlements" while simultaneously allowing for these very same securities (owned by the DTCC) to be used as collateral for other loans. So you and I are being sold securities that MAY be simulatanously pledged for senior creditors who will be able to take our ownership in the event something bad happens.
This looks to me like a way to clear the boards of overleveraged trades, naked short selling, and bogus derivatives by essentially being able to pull everything off the table and actually account for what is real away from prying eyes.
It's a simple book available for free and you can read it in 2 hours. Pretty confusing given how many acronyms and different agencies and regulatory bodies are in existence. Worth a read and has me second guessing things I own in my brokerage knowing I am basically nothing more than an unsecured creditor that is owed nothing more than an insurance payout that is underfunded 50 times over.

Any derivative derived its value from something else. This could be stock options, silver futures, interest rate swaps and the list goes on. Notional represents the theoretical amount of an asset under control. I think Comex contracts are on 10k Troy ounces so you’d take spot times the amount of ounces and there’s your notional. In the land of stocks, I could buy a contract on $SPY with a strike of 500 right now. I’d control around $45k worth of spy theoretically and it would only cost the contract premium. I could buy a contract with 5 DTE for like a penny and still control those stocks theoretically. Realistically I donated money buying the contract

Has anyone here read this? It's truly shocking what has been set up across the entire world. Basically, any security you have can and will be taken in a financial crash with the collateral takers having full legal protections. This applies to the US, Canada, UK, Eurozone and pretty much everyone in the G20. Securities are no longer treated as property, but as entitlements. What is interesting is that the book focuses entirely on the the legal structures behind the ownership. He alludes to a “they” but does not bother going further. I remember reading the protocols and they speak exactly of a major economic crash that will have us eating from their hands like dogs. Set a ratio, say 1 part gold, one part silver, measured in €.
Right now that is: 10oz gold to 750oz silver.
Now, if gold prices drop, but silver doesn't, i would buy gold to get my ratio back. If silver drops i buy silver to get the ratio back.

But they only sell to a list of approved (5000 iirc) participants, who all are bullion dealers with clean records and get rewarded limited allocations each year. It's nice to have some gold. But realistically you have a grand opportunity to massively increase your wealth by focusing on silver. Here are some relevant facts to consider.
In U.S. history the Dow:Gold ration has reached 1:1 TWICE.
Historical silver:gold ratio is closer to 16:1.
Mining output is closer to 8:1.
Currently the GSR is 82:1.
By buying up silver at this historically cheap price you can eventually swap it for MORE gold than you could by chasing gold.
That is also not taking into consideration future demand from investors who will need to hide from inflation AS WELL as industry needing to secure the metal for production. If inflation runs rampant the physical supply will not be able to contain it and industry will be forced to price investors out. There is even a non-zero chance that silver could significantly revalue relative to gold for this very reason. The globe needs $1BN ounces of silver per year and we produce $800M ounces. That is not even enough for every American to have 3 ounces. That is not enough to give like 3 GRAMS to every person of Earth. The supply is about as tight as can be and even increase in price the mining industry has little in the way of being able to ramp up production quickly as many of silver we have comes from copper, zinc, and gold mines. Very few pure silver mines exist on earth the ones that do are uneconomical to develop and getting mines online for production can take close to a decade to begin production.
I own some gold only because of the monetary implications could be interesting. The fundamental case for silver will win every time though due to arbitrage.

Do not be distraught at the size of COMEX contracts. They are designed to be prohibitive to retail and mostly used for hedging and industry. You know how you can buy 1oz coins, kilos, 100oz bars with relative exactness? Well COMEX bars are imprecise and this actually allows the COMEX to demand an even HIGHER level of margin to accomodate the differential. Your bar may be 995 pounds of 1012. And because of that variance they price it in to controlling the contract as an extra level of deterrence.

I have it as a contingency along with all the other steps I take to protect myself which include stocking up on food and other things. I think the LME price jumps in nickel and zinc (2022) are not mere blips. They did a 5x overnight and the LME literally needed to walk back trades to prevent themselves from blowing up. I think we are rapidly approaching a fundamental revaluation in commodities that will not occur until losses in the bond market and banking system manifest themselves and that exact revaluation will be the reckoning of the bond market as everyone holding dollars will be instantly impoverished.
