Problem with this kind of trinkets is it better have a really unique/beautiful style otherwise you can kiss the premium goodbye. Just like jewelry. And no standardization means no liquidity.
And a crappy looking turtle wont make it.

A real life example. I bought this 10oz gold plated sterling silver horse from the 70s last week. 1/1th, unique piece, expertized like two months ago by Barnabys for 500 bux.
Probably costed WAY more than that to commission from the artist back then.

Do you know how much i paid for it? 130€. Half of spot price. Nobody is interested in this kind of former gifts / personal commissions stuff. People don't even bother to look at it.
But if it was melted down in a rectangle with .999 written over it, you could sell it for spot + premium within a day.

I don't know why he's ranting about Tolkien when the whole point of the Lord of the Rings was creating a mythology for the English, which are a fusion of Christianity and Paganism. I mean, we can all get uppity on the details. Why are we still calling it Paganism when it's supposed to be Heathenism (Paganism is a Latin term not Germanic). Why are we still calling it Norse mythology when it's Germanic mythology (it's called Norse mythology because the Germanic pantheon was the most venerated by the Norsemen). I don't see the point in focusing on these things because stories for the most part are supposed to be transformative.

I tried asking this a couple threads ago but didn't see any responses so trying again:

Where should I be looking for Morgan/Peaces that haven't been picked over for VAMs and other interesting bits. Do online bullion shops really have the time/resources to sift through all their inventory? Seems like small coin shops/ebay sellers would be more likely to look for the obvious good stuff before selling a roll.

And yes and yes; it's ugly and i wanna melt it. At least, that was the plan, but it's been over a week now and it's silence radio from the seller. I think he's pretty butthurt it sold for starting price.
I'll send a reclamation this afternoon, and wont even insist if he prefer not to send it. But i don't want my $$ to be in standstill when it could be better used elsewhere.

Half of spot for scrap PMs is pretty standard for Frogbro, if that deal falls through he can easily find something else priced cheap. I like his 17th-18th century French silverware cheapies way more than that modern scrap junk.

I don't need it, but it'd be nice to have a prettier face for the rest of my life, much more so than some millennial cylinders sitting in a box in my closet. I'd keep my ancients and my gold, but all the silver bullion? Eh, it doesn't spark joy. I heard that Facial Surgery for man can make the man's face sort of "feminine" compared to before the surgery,. not sure if that only happens when its not done right or what.
maybe something about the surgery that makes the eyes or mouth look more feminine?
I was browsing for Mans facial surgery a while back, with the idea of wanting to look and feel younger again.
but saw some comments about the fact that it van make men look "more feminine". that's definitely not something i want to happen so it made me hesitate.
.I would want to look younger and ?more masculine" in order to attract and keep young cute girls.
apparenmtly its like $10-$20k, easily, for facial surgery though.
And I've seen some supposedly "before and after" pics of older men with actual surgery and i gotta say, i was not impressed at all with the results in most of those pictures.
if im gonna pay $10k+ for facial surgery, i damn well expect to look at least 10 years younger and also look good, not like some weird mutant

Idk about facial masculinizing surgery yo look younger, but you don't need it. Men can age so well and gain sex appeal into their 50s even. Lean into that by eating well and exercising, and maybe even grow a nice beard. Plus all the money you save could be invested. Financial security is attractive. I'm probably looking to spend around $50k for FFS. It's a big decision, so if I'm going to do it, I want to go with best surgeon. I've avoided doing it until now, in part because of the huge expense, but also because it's scary. However, I'm m at a point in my life now where I can afford it and get it done without too much interference into other parts of my life, so why not give myself a little upgrade?

>>56064955
Bless you anon o7 I actually already do pass (I'mvery lucky). I'm just doing this to upgrade. I got so many useless assets just sitting around that it dawned on my recently that I could liquidate things and get FFS. I didn't do it earlier in life, in part because I didn't want classmates or coworkers to wonder why my face changed. Explaining it would have outed me, especiallysince I'm not bad looking as is. But my current gig is remote and I don't think my coworkers would even notice in video calls like they would have in person. So why the heck not transmaxx at this point in life? Life doesn't last forever.

Other anon is right about LAC being Lionel Alfred Crichton, I have 1 piece by him, a 12" diameter octagonal centerpiece bowl made in 1915 and weighing 1.64kg, he made top-quality and very thicc sterling.

Very nice heirloom anon, do you use it yourself now? I certainly would. Not quite related but I really like the worn-slick pocket-piece dollars that sometimes wind up in scrap bins, especially ones worn so smooth the date is long gone and only a numisfag would know whether it was a Morgan or Peace. They're worthless to collectors but are imbued with so much dynamic talismanic sovl and potency, quite unlike relatively static sovlless slabbed frosty uncirculated coins. I understand the appeal of minty coins but I really like holding and "absorbing" things that were clearly very important to people before me.

I don't enjoy you FUDding my precious silver of late, but am curious if you've added any more ancients to the collection? I came across a couple new (to me) eBay dealers with remarkably good Buy-it-Now prices so will be buying some bronzes I need soon, maybe a nice archaic silver stater from Aspendos too, they used to be exceptionally rare but someone secretly dug up an enormous hoard of them several years ago and successfully dumped them on lots of dealers which flooded the market, so they're now the cheapest ancient silver staters one can buy.

The Lewis and Clark boat? I don't think so but don't follow modern coins much either. If you want some badass older ships I suggest recruiting among the old commemorative silver half dollars for additional ships, my favorite ship design is the 1920 Pilgrim Tercentenary half dollar but there are several really nice ones, have a scroll through the different commemorative halves on this page 11 and onto 12:

>How long have you been into ancients?
I bought my first two when i was in 1st grade for $1 each when my dad took me to the Baltimore, MD coin show in the 90s, I promptly lost 1 at school but still have the other (a little bronze from Arados). Dabbled in ancient coins here and there but found myself more interested in ancient European artifacts/antiquities and American antiques which I focused on until around 2015 when I started studying and collecting ancient coinage more seriously and balancing my antiquities with relevant coins.

You have a lot. Do you by chance have access to a LCS that sells them? How do you even store those tiny 1/4 obol tetartemorions? I'd be scared of loosing them.
I did buy a whole collection of 79 impeccably attributed ancient coins from the super based LCS my dad always goes to, $500 for everything which I will recoup easy by selling some of the ones I don't personally want. But besides that I've only gotten a couple other ancients at a LCS, most don't have the knowledge or client base to deal in them.

Regarding storage, I use baggies, glass vials, and can definitely recommend the "Kointain" line of thin, small-footprint plastic cases. Put the tinybois in the smallest Kointains then you can safely put them in flips or pick up and look at them without fumbling and losing them on the floor, I've had to use a gold pan to work the contents of my vacuum cleaner to find lost tetartemorions more than once lol,

Ah that's all so cool!! The LCSs here don't deal with ancients. I only got into them last year when I was on a trip to Silicon Valley and stopped by Treassure Island Coins and Stamps in Sunnyvale, CA. They had a bunch. Now I can only buy them online. I bet the east and west coasts are the main places to buy ancients IRL in the US. There is something really special about hold coinage from the BC era. The ancient coins are about as far as I dabble in antiques. I'd be cool to find more things, but I just don't encounter many cool antiques where I currently live. I'll check out the coin storage you use. The ancients are all so varied that normal plastic tube autism doesn't work for them. Anyways, here is my Alexander. It's from the Babylon mint, which you can tell by the mint mark on the other side (I'll post it next).

I wish more frens were into numismatics. Would keep /pmg/ breads more interesting, and a bit of /his/ is always great.
Because ngl, looking at the same weiners pics for the 1000x time is getting old.

Those old coins aren't simply a testament of ancient art and craftmanship, they are also telling so many stories who deserve to be told and remembered. The kings, princes and lords you see on them were often made of a totally different wood than our current spineless (((leaders))), to say the least. For good or bad.
Also, while we wait for the moonshot, they often are a better speculative vehicle, especially if you manage to get them at a good price.

Speaking of which, i just got received the tiny lot of various old coins i purchased from ebay for 15 bux, among which was picrel.
At first i thought it was a silver Real of Ferdinand & Isabella, which is a pretty common coin from that era (minted for 70 years, which is really long for that era). But upon closer inspection, it turns out it's a Real of Ferdinand V & Joanna (called Joanna La Loca = Jane the Crazy), who was minted for only 1 year (1506)!
So the coin is much rarer than i initially thought, which is a good thing i guess, even though the liquidity will be much worse. Zero price history on ebay for this coin (or elsewhere for that matter), so not too sure how i should price it.

Sadly, as you can see, the condition is really bad, but at that price i can't complain.

I’m sorry to say this Anon, but she is not wife material. Today it’s this, tomorrow it’s something critical - likely brought on by her resentment of you being responsible and wise as opposed to an idiot child like most women are.

Agreed. Historical coins really filter /pmg/. The history behind them is what's so captivating to me. I love Alexander the Great and after I watched Asha Logos video about him for the 3rd time, I was dead set on getting some of his coinage. Modern bullion has no SOVL, which is why it's purely an investment and financial medium to me. This is why I have no attachment to selling it to pay for something else I want (in my case FFS). Queen Elizabeth or king Charles being on a bullion coin means nothing to me. As modern day humans they are whatever, but as actual rulers they're nothing. The coin in your pic here, is it Medieval?

the box and coa are different, the bamboo is colored in, the baby's eyes and tail tip are the wrong color, art in general is just off, mintage says 5k (should be 50k?).

it all leads me to think it's fake, but that it has some effort put into it is throwing me off.

Kointain capsules could be put in tubes if that brand of autism is particularly compelling, but I prefer having fondle-piles laying around instead of keeping my treasures hermetically sealed and hidden away. What a fantastic resource! Immediately added it to my quick links kek.
Ferdinand + Joanna yielded no results, so i searched for Ferdinand alone, and now i'm extra confused...
I indeed found my coin in a finished auction, labelled as an "Gothic G variety", but under the title Ferdinand & Isabella.
Pic rel was the auction in question. No doubt it's the same coin that i bought... but it's also the same coin listed on Numista as a Joanna!

Considering the difficulty i have to find anything related to Joanna online, i suppose it's the Numista listing who is wrong, and it's simply a variation of the Isabella. A member would have added an incorrect entry?
It's true that the picrel/my coin have several differences with regular Isabellas i can find online, but when a coin is minted for 70 years in different mints, it's only logical changes come up over the years/locations.
At least i've got a better idea of the price, this one sold for $220, and in a pretty similar condition than mine, if it wasn't for the fact mine is all bent. So it's been really useful, thanks Scrapfren!

Ah cool. I thought they may have been some obtuse form of money at first. The one in your picrel looks more like a dager even. I've seen some of the ancient coins have depections of grain on them, which is cool. Certain themes of agriculture and domestication are found throughout the ancient coinage (like cows). It's neat. I think I want my next ancient to be an Athenian owl though. Do you have any of those?

I'm glad that the link is useful, it is for medieval to modern numismatics but if you didn't see the tab on the webpage they also have an archive for ancient coins that you'll probably want to browse too:
https://www.coinarchives.com/a/

Also bookmark the SixBid archive:
https://sixbid-coin-archive.com/#/en

And for researching coins that have sold on eBay this is a real hidden gem of a resource. You don't see many sub-$100 coins offered by fancy numismatic auction houses unless they are selling bulk lots, the cheaper coins often get put on eBay so to cover sales data for those definitely bookmark Coryssa (website made by Rasiel Suarez who also runs Lucitera):
https://www.coryssa.org/

I can't really help with your Spanish coin, it's way outside my wheelhouse and I'd need to study it in hand to confidently determine what the legend/inscriptions say, but even with the bends I think it's a good coin and more appealing than you seem to rate it, it might be worth flattening between 2 wood boards if the silver isn't too brittle and crystallized but I'd keep researching before taking that risk.

>>56070518
>I thought they may have been some obtuse form of money at first.

Those weren't, but I have several "unfinished" cast sickle blades that were almost certainly used as a sort of tool-money currency. Scholarship is scant but it stands to reason that different tool types like axes, knives and sickles were used like money long before standardized struck coinage was developed. The scythians used unfinished then stylized cast arrowheads as money, the chinese are well known for making complex cast tool-monies, and even the Aztecs had copper alloy axe/hoe "coins" which we know were worth 8,000 cacao beans or about $400 in purchasing power. And no I don't have any Owls yet, I'd love one but they're so common that I have no FOMO unlike with more arcane and far more rare pieces I'm hunting for, and because they're so famous prices are often too high.
