what would you do if you were a mediocre programmer who can't find a tech job in this market?

Fellow mediocre programmer here, been working at one mid-tier tech company for 8 years because I'm dogshit at interviewing and lucked into my current position. If I lost my job tomorrow I would try to find a job at another smaller or mid sized company, maybe at a company that's not directly tech (I've heard of programmers working at random places like home depot as software devs, so companies like that).
The dream would be finding a remote job or contract work and move to a 3rd world country so I can save as much as possible.
I'd probably live off my savings for the first year and try to get my own company off the ground though, I already do gamedev in my spare time but feels like I never have enough time to get anything decent off the ground.

Look, totally honest, I've been grinding leetcode, learning Rust, reading books about Kafka, System Design, cracking the coding interview, elements of programming interviews etc.

And the thing is that the job market is shit right now. Mediocre programmers like me can't get good jobs now. We need to get whatever job we can at the moment, continue improving our skills, and then in 1-2 years, we can try jump into a better job.

I was trying to switch from trading to big tech and it has been an absolute flop so far. Been without a job since November last year.

You know what? I prefer programmers that know their limits and are willing to learn rather than programmers that think that are elite, and create unmaintainable code that's over complicated, slow and error prone.

I worked with a lot of "elite coders" that was impossible to work with.

It's a good language, I really like it. You need to understand the concepts of ownership, mut/inmut references, traits, etc. Once you master them it's like a better version of C++ without all of the compatibility stuff and weird shit.

I really think Rust will continue growing, it has been adopted in the Linux kernel and Microsoft is rewriting parts of the Windows kernel in Rust.

JFL, I've been learning unemployeable skills, why can't I get hired?
i have been there too, learned GO.

GO and RUST are unemployable go is barely employable but RUST is non existent. it's just exist in YOUTUBE influancer space. do not learn from what youtube is telling you to learn, go look for the 100 top position u want to work for near you and learn what they need

probably php, python and Js

Unironically move. Or keep grinding leetcode subsisting on dumpster scraps and living 5 to a 1 bedroom apartment with randos (who are very likely to be poojeets, fob chinks, gays or trannies) barely making ends meet, all for that chance at a FAANG job where you'll get pip'ed within the first year before your stocks vest.

I see that there are some sites that allow you to remote work for US companies from Europe, but I'm not so sure about pay and work hours, etc.
If you want to live in USA, you need Visa sponsorship (H1B).
Right now seems hard.
You can try the green card lottery.

I would like to move to US, but as a yuropoor idk, not easy.
Pajeets literally have companies in US to smuggle pajeets into US.

>And the thing is that the job market is shit right now. Mediocre programmers like me can't get good jobs now.
Anyone that says this is lazy and unskilled. Developer/Engineer unemployment is at an all time low - there are 1.4 dev jobs to every software developer. Our HR team had to start sourcing because we weren't getting any hits on open recs.

If you're an engineer and you aren't getting a job in 4 weeks - its because you don't have any usable skills (uh huh I know React) or you don't have any experience developing solutions for the vertical you're applying for (you did a bunch of front end development and you're applying for jobs in the financial sector or manufacturing that are backend focused).

>>56020406
This guy right here. Nothing I love more as a hiring manager then getting 150 applicants with almost no usable skills and no experience in the sector we're asking them to do.

>> No.56022853

>>56022807
That's a problem created by hiring managers. They won't hire candidates who are skilled in another stack and capable of learning your stack. Candidates are shoehorned into one stack for their entire career and jobs go unfilled.

>> No.56022940

>>56020225
Mediocre probably means junior. You should be applying for lower-level positions. Avoid fagman since they have ridiculous expectations for junior engineers due to how much they've inflated engineer pay. Look for a place that values mentorship.
>>56020405
I think you've exhausted the utility of those resources. At a certain point, the only way you can continue learning is by doing.
What you need to do is convince your interviewer that your first 3 months with the company will go smoothly. Remember that the entire point of a new hire is to get them to contribute to the company quickly. Junior hires will typically require training and mentorship to start making valuable contributions. Avoid giving off red flags and try to come off as cool, collected, and amicable.

That sounds like a smart choice. Instead of purchasing BTC at its peak, it would be wiser to buy it when the price dips and then explore opportunities like the SUPR airdrop. It is worth noting that SUPR is a native token of SuperDappAI, which is known for its distinctive ecosystem.

I'm a step or two above pajeets, they're the worst to work with. I have to break everything down into baby steps for them otherwise they throw their hands up and give up, and if I have to do that it's easier just to do it myself. That you're giving me shit for being mediocre while giving pajeets a pass shows you're a retard and you don't know what you're talking about. That you value HR's time at all is hilarious.
>>56021600
Based, I've been doing WFH occasionally but our CEO is completely against it, so everyone is being forced to come back to the office. I've already seen a few people fired because they refused to come back kek. It's retarded because all of our managers don't care, half of us work in other timezones as well so any collaboration is done via online meetings. Just a big waste of time coming back to the office but I'm pretty sure he just did some handshake deal to force everyone back to try to save commercial real estate since there's no logical reason for it besides something like that.
Having a new gf makes it difficult but if it doesn't work out remote working seems like the best way to build wealth for a wagie. Being able to save 90% of your income living in a low cost of living country seems amazing.
