the “product” being sold in this case is happiness. Basically, the chorus is presented in a manner as if a representative of the “uptight” 90s is talking to the listener: “Keep on doing nothing but working and going through your daily grind! If you do, you’ll DEFINITELY be able to buy happiness! Absolutely!”

If you keep working (fueled by that promise to buy happiness), society will keep on treating you like a normal person and tolerating your presence!

Also, you won’t have to realize how empty your life really is, thus you won’t have to realize what has happened to you, so you can keep deluding yourself that you have a reason to get out of bed every morning!
