serious story about purple squirrels

i live in georgia, go visit friend in north mountains. while hanging on his property see a legit purple squirrel. WTF??!!! why are there purple squirrels. my friend says they are all over the area but not naturally occuring. explanation as follows:

>his solution is to trap squirrels, dye them bright purple and pink, then release them
