you need 100 shares of anything
then just like buying options, you select a strike 6 months or so out (thats a comfy length, but can be ajusted), and hit "sell" instead of "buy"
you get the money for the sold contract immediately
you either wait for it to expire, or buy the contract again to close it, ideally at a lower price
if the price of stock is over the strike at the time of expiry, you sell your shares at prearranged price, but its okay, you made some money so you just buy the shares back again
these contracts get radically cheaper as time goes on (time decay)
so even if the price of the stock goes up, you can still close it at a profit

consult google "covered calls" for more info

its an alaborate way to short or sell into a crab, you can also sell puts, but that requires a maintained cash balance for 100 shares in your account, in this situation you dont get dividends or stock appreciation though
