BRICS is China's hail mary. It is estimated that half of the local governments in Tiers 2-4 will go bankrupt within the next few years due to the property bubble imposion. Chinese municipalities are not allowed to issue bonds and are forced to sell land to property developers to build in the middle-of-nowhere (hence the ghost cities). Nobody is buying anymore and everyone is running out of money. The government has also turned the screws on tech, which was probably the one industry that could have saved them. Forgot to clarify, in Chinese, salary is colloquially discussed as monthly rates. It's common for a college grad to earn 3000-4000 RMB per month. Which is basically impossible to live a good life with, let alone raise a family. It's why "lying flat" culture is becoming a thing.
