Idk anything about Rhodium, but the only thing who come to mind to explain such extreme price delta is the very limited supply. Maybe there is only one mine of rhodium on earth?
So if the mine is getting shutdown for X or Y reason, it's all good for you. Especially if the metal have very specific industrial application with no existing alternative. But what if a second mine open and flood the market?
Too rare means too risky, it's not the kind of bets i like.

But if anything, you certainly are better buying it at 4K than 30K. But looking at the chart, it looks like on it's way to go back down to 600 rather than the opposite..
Looking at the timeline on the chart, could be the spike coof-related? We know many miners were forced to stop their activities due to essential workers only policy.

While the chart shows a pretty clear post-covid bubble due to the effects you mentioned, I see no reason for it to dump below previous levels. There are many more dollars in existence these past few years, yet rhodium maintains its rarity. The way I see it, this is a long term bet against inflation with a free option that we also see another insane squeeze due to the tight market and inelastic demand.

They sell you a promise of gold (with premium) and buy the promise back under spot (for now 1%, but in 2 years it could be 6% or they don't buy back at all, because the gold never existed in the first place).
If you want to use gold for investment, use ETF. But that is a mistake, there are better investments.

Goldbacks are a different animal than most PM's. Most of the value of a PM is in the weight. Half the value of a GB is the form factor. People are stuck on the spot/premium calculation that doesn't really apply to GBs.
You can walk into many stores with Goldbacks and walk out with goods. You may get lucky and find a tradesman who will work for a stack of ASE's, but they are few and far between.

Yes there's no argument here, gold is not an investment as is not most of the stocks currently, as they produce nothing. Yeah, at least for the 3 larger matching silver spoons in Towle's "Candlelight" pattern which I recognize and have handled before. I have a good visual memory for objects so I've recognized as sterling and bought cheap many items where no hallmark pics or even mention of sterling was provided. Many others that look promising which I don't immediately recognize can be looked up in a few comprehensive websites detailing all makes and patterns of silverware.

What's curious is all the financial papers repeated for over a year now climbing interest rates would tank PMs - especially gold - valuation, as bonds are supposedly as secure as gold, but would now yield 5-7% risk free, against 0% for metals, thus everybody would dump their PMs to buy T bonds.

Reality is non-US institutions are avoiding US bonds like the plague, no matter the yield, even getting rid of what they have, and nobody sold their gold.
So the PM supposed "blackswan" ended up being a complete nothingburger. Even after 550 basis points being added.

Will the opposite also be true? Those same papers claims the minute the FED pivot and push the rates back down, it will trigger an exodus of the institutions from Tbonds toward gold.
Considering their track record + clownworld, i wouldn't bet on this, but this is the logic at play.
