Should I buy ETFs or just the most relevant companies in each sector?
I know that passive investing into ETFs outperforms 70% of all traders and almost the entire actively managed funds market, yet it still feels a bit off because literally EVERYONE is shilling ETFs at this point. I mean absolutely everyone; zoomers on tiktok, colleagues at work, my fucking barber, family members etc.
The exploding number of finance youtubers praising ETFs with jump cut edits and clickbait titles are triggering my bullshit sensors. I'm not against passive investing into ETFs but the amount of cash that has been flowing into them over the last 10 years is insane.

Is something like an ETF-Bubble even possible?

She is unironically right. The concept of money be it fiat, gold-backed, crypto or otherwise all comes down to what man believes to hold value and what doesn't. It's also why fiat currency can go on to infinity with no problems whatsoever. All you have to do is make people believe what is in front of them be worth whatever the amount you want. That is how the economy is able to keep going be all of humanity believing in it altogether that it works.

Nearly 40% of US attack submarines in or awaiting repair as shipyards face worker shortages, supply chain issues
The growing number of ships in maintenance stems from a shortage of workers able to carry out the necessary work and a lack of space at the maintenance shipyards, according to the report. In addition, supply chain issues have affected the availability of repair parts, especially since many submarine components are from sole-source supplies.

>They were warned about the dangers of chop loss, beta slippage, etc.
They were raised to recognize patterns. They see a chart moving higher and intuition tells them it'll continue forever. They were told the market is efficient, so quantitative analysis is a waste.
They read research papers (built on flawed math) telling them maybe the vol decay isn't so bad because over time the upswings should outscale the declines due to dollar decaying in value.
They see the backtested performance during ZIRP and the visible 1% management fee, and believe they're getting free leverage. Meanwhile margin costs 6-7%+
They read papers on the infinite potential of AI, crypto, whatever, all written by other people employed inside the same tech bubble who legitimately believe whatever analysis they're writing.
They figure that their 5 fig or low 6 fig portfolio is small enough that they can bail at a moments notice before the real decline hits.
Once the losses come in, they suffer all the same cognitive biases as any other bagholder. It's hard to sell at a loss. It's hard to sell the rebound when NVDA is at all time highs and you haven't even broke even on your SOXL position that at one point in time was looking like a 100% gain.

In truth, it's all fairly typical, rational human behavior. Entirely misguided, but can you really say it's their fault?

exactly, even if you decided that paper is worthless, you still need a means to exchange goods and services, you could make it seashells or shiny beads, but a currency denoting a value that can be exchanged for goods and services of equal value will always be needed and for global markets to be able to exchange you need a global reserve currency, which the dollar, so for the dollar to be imaginary and worthless, you would need a complete collapse of the global economy and everyone to agree all at once it is worthless, which would never happen and even if it did, something else would have to rise up quickly to take its place. >They read research papers (built on flawed math) telling them maybe the vol decay isn't so bad because over time the upswings should outscale the declines due to dollar decaying in value.
These people who trade SOXL have the mindset of over-confident teenagers who don't bother reading up on HOW the leveraged ETFs work.

You're right, they see historical beta of semiconductor assets and think it is a good buy. Leveraged etfs almost exclusively use swaps. Commodity leveraged ETFs use TRS too.

Any strategy backtested during ZIRP looks amazing.

The problem that /smg/ tards who love SOXL don't understand is that with any leveraged ETF is when the underlying asset drops 10%, your leveraged fund drops 20%. The next day when the underlying asset returns to the exact same price as on the first day, your leveraged fund is now only at 98% of what it was the first day.

So over time any volatility will serve to drain your money into nowhereness. It never works in your favor. That's just how the math works out.

If you're up 20%, then you bought at a great time. Now get out before the volatility erodes your gains into nothing.

Try the math out for yourself.

Do you guys want me to actually go through the math with y'all?

Maybe if he buys $1 million in shares that will almost make up for the hundreds and hundreds of millions that he has sold.
Protip: They will never buy, because the company is dogshit, hemorrhages money, obsesses with woke ideology, does not produce software that can be mass sold / must customize each order to each new client [very unprofitable to do this]

I don't think showing the math will help anyone. They either already know the math, or they've deluded themselves into believing the fantasy math. That's exactly the problem. There are two sets of math here:
On one hand you've got vol decay.
On the other hand, maintaining leverage compounds profits. Suppose an asset appreciates 10% for 7 days in a row. That's roughly a double. To be more precise it's a 94.8% gain.
With triple leverage and daily adjustment, you're gaining 30% for those 7 days. At the end of the period you have a 527.4% gain.

Suppose at that point in time you reset your leverage down to 1x. So you're just investing your cash in the original asset, at the new price of that asset.
You can buy 3.22x more shares than you'd have if you simply held outright. The point is that leverage doesn't only produce losses. There's vol decay, but incremental gains are also possible. If you'd gone with 3x leverage on the first day and then never adjusted, you'd only have gotten a 284% gain.
As long as the gains during the holding period are large enough, it'll outweigh the negative decay.

Anyway, the real problem is that in practice buying SOXL at this current point in time will not see meaningful gains. The valuation is retarded. The only possible growth is through even more insane multiple expansion. Meanwhile, the cost of leverage which was previously negative in real terms pre-covid is now +2% or so.

Yes, I think so. AAPL did as well at one point. That is what serious, smart companies do when their shares dump. That is why FAANG companies are FAANG companies. They are not operated by a set of grifters with insane SBC and absurd buyback timing.

Actually, buyback timing for shitcos like PLTR isn't absurd. It's basic human greed. You're a C-suite exec and see your wealth grow real-time as stock price appreciates. Why not make it grow some more with a buyback program.

Republicans are unbelievably stupid Christian morons who have basically all become hicks. We're going to be living with the consequences of Trump's handling of the economy for decades. The GOP does everything to fuck over the common citizen and White goy cattle will keep on voting for them.

Democrats like Obama actually tried to put policy into place that would provide safeguards against unfair business practices by the handful of mega-corporations that have a virtual monopoly over livestock production in the US - which is the real reason prices keep going up. His policy kept getting blocked and then Trump came into power and said, "help the little guy? Fuck that."

>there is zero country with the navy to stage an invasion of the usa
LOL you delusional mongoloid they are replacing the nation itself no need to stage anything, plus there literally is an invasion of 100 million foreign hoard since 1965 that already stole USA from its people. USA does not exist. I can't believe you are using the global jewish military machine that masquerades as a national army to gloat.

You need to be more specific. Sell if they are below their 10 EMA.

>Sell if they are below their 10 EMA.
Uh... they are...
What does this mean? EMA was 66.12, close was 64.68. Is it over?

Just give the ticker, you think you're doxing yourself by saying it or something? It's not over unless it's under the 21 EMA as well.

Buy when it's over the 10 day EMA. Sell when its under.

Is it really this easy?

And how do I use the 21 and 10 EMAs to see that?

>> No.55784460

>>55784431
You see how the 10 EMA is very close to crossing under the 21 EMA? That's a pretty bearish signal. You have to go back to February to see something similar.
Preferably you'll want the 10 EMA over the 21 EMA and both of them sloping upwards. That's a decent signal the market is bullish again.

Hmm... they got very close near the end of April too. And then it pumped again

>> No.55784495

>>55784483
You have to take market context into consideration too. I don't know what happened back in April but Fitch just downgraded US to AA+ and the market seems to be reacting to that. It might be a nothingburger, but why not just wait for the confirmation instead of catching falling knives? All of this is assuming you're trading, if you're investing for the long haul (5+ years) you shouldn't even be asking whether to sell or not.

>> No.55784537

>>55784495
I think the downgrade will be nothing, but the market was looking for a reason to throw a quick fit, and that's what came up. The pump will resume shortly.
This isn't my long haul account, so I'm being a bit active, but not quite day trading

You don't need any indis to see price reversing, look at ES today. wait for a 1-2-3 reversal pattern, then buy when price confirms moving past 2's high.
