can anyone help?
I am using the Interactive Brokers demo.
I opened a position together with a hedge pair trade.

put the hedge ratio correctly but when everything is executed, the short side's 'mkt value' in portfolio monitor is overvalued.

I understand the ratio between market values of both positions should be as close to 1 as possible.
instead, I have to manually add another contract to make that happen

I think you're thinking about ambient temperature SUPERconductors? Despite the name similarity, they aren't really related to semiconductors at all in terms of practical application. Semiconductor materials allow you to control how much electricity is conducted through, so they can be used to build tiny switches in huge quantities that make up computer chips (which is why computer chips are generally referred to as "semiconductors").
Superconductors are materials that allow electricity to pass through with no resistance, meaning no energy loss. Until lately, it's only been possible with some materials when they're extremely cold, but apparently there's been some recent advances. The practical applications are different: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superconductivity#Applications

That depends on several factors, but I have a limit order set for a few shares at $55, and will buy more the higher it goes, and will sell it on the first decent BOIL dip after. THIS IS NOT THE TIME OF YEAR TO BIAS TOWARDS KOLD. I hold it as temporarily as possible and use it as a quick swing hedge against BOIL DIPPARINOS. One of the factors is you need to watch it and be ready to sell it when you get an opportunity. We are about to have the contract roll into the November one which might raise the floors and ceilings on all of this, and in fact should. PROCEED WITH CAUTION ACCORDINGLY.

Sound safe, sexy, and appropriate. It's a level that will probably not get assigned and a safe amount of income to sit on long term.
For example, I have 90 shares of WMT through work. It seems to be having trouble closing past 160, so I thought it might be a good time to take some profit on it. I would move it to TFSA, buy back 100 shares in a month or so, and then start writing calls against it. They pay a 1.5% divvy, do maybe a 1-2% share buyback a year, have modest growth, and then I can expect a comfy 2-3% gain on top of that via options.

Understood, but that's still only $1.9 bln annual revenue that they do even with all those clients. DDOG, SNOW, ORCL, all the major public clouds, and many other startups are getting into providing the same data analytic services that PLTR is.

So what's the proposition as to how PLTR is justified as a $40 bln company despite the competition? Let's say they do outcompete everyone and manage to grow bottomline at 30% annually the next 10 years (much faster than current 17% growth), and then 10% annually the next 10 years after that. They're still only making $15.7 bln in 20 years from now in that scenario. They'll also likely be continuing to dilute the hell out of the investor base for the foreseeable future, already have about 400mm addl shares currently that will result in 20% dilution from the current 2,000mm share count outstanding.

>Why does it matter, if they aren't profitable
Because most of the revenue is put back into growth and development. Soon as they turn it off their profit goes from very little to huge. Profit is easily manipulated on a balance sheet if the company is putting more into growth. For example Meta put 21 billion into AI meme world. They put that as a loss now. if they canceled the project it would have been 21 billion more profit.

Government contracts are fixed length service agreements, but ignoring that and assuming those agreements are instead perpetual. That's recurring revenue, which I agree is advantageous to have. But we're talking about less than $2 bln revenue for a company the market is worth $40 bln. Yes there is real value to the company and advantages to having contracts that provide recurring revenue but what I fail to see is how this justifies a $40 bln valuation

well market cap isnt valuation really. If you go with a fundamental value investing you wouldnt arrive at the market cap.

How much profit do you expect PLTR to generate in 5 years? 10 years? 20 years?

How much revenue do you expect PLTR to generate over those same timeframes?

Additionally, how are you accounting for the 19% pending share dilution and how have you accounted for the 3.4% annual dilution since 2021?

Lastly, what are your thoughts on management / other insiders always selling shares and never committing their own money to buy the stock in the open market?

>>55722572
Market cap is what it would cost to buy every share in the open market at the current price, giving you full ownership of the equity of the company. If what you're talking about is enterprise value then you're simply adjusting it for the net cash or net debt position to come out to what it would cost to buy the whole firm *net* of any cash or *net* of paying back all outstanding debt to have no other senior claims on the business

Elaborating on this:

PLTR has about $3 bln net cash, so the "real" valuation here is $39 bln if you bought the whole company for $42 bln today and got back the $3 bln net cash. Put another way, there's cash of $1.44 / share of PLTR ignoring dilution
