New to investing. Before I start throwing money around at random stocks I want to build a solid foundation. I'm looking for blue chip stocks that aren't hundreds of dollars though. I'm looking for less obvious ones that a google search might not turn up in the first results. Also is this a good strategy in general?

you don't get bonus points for being different. there are good obvious stocks and bad obvious stocks. there are good less obvious stocks and bad obvious stocks

I'm not trying to be different I just can't afford a reasonable number of obvious good stocks like microsoft, amazon, etc.

Buy good “expensive” stocks .1 at a time or if you have a decent portfolio use margin to buy whole shares and pay it off over time

I like BLK AVGO and TDG as long term holds and they’re not cheap

if you’re looking for basic bitch bluechips DIS is on sale rn (no divy)

Dividend paying stocks are a good way to get things going WKLY and TGIF pay dividends weekly SPYI, JEPI, TLH, BND
are all pretty decent and they pay monthly. most things pay quarterly if anything but I like SCHD

Why not just buy ETFs? A lot of people will tell you that picking single stocks could lead to massive losses for you. Regardless of them being blue chip.
The obvious ones are SPY, QQQ, XLF, XLV, XLP
Do not try to reinvent the wheel.

What's the catch with ETFs? They bundle a bunch of stocks and give you inherent diversity and can track the market which is generally solid. They seem like cheating so what are big draw backs?

The market crashes and you lose your money.

Or 1 of the companies has massive fraud and/or goes bankrupt.

It's all risk vs reward over the time-scale you plan to invest for, also have a set profit margin and stick to it, there's plenty of bitcoin investors who could have made hundreds of thousands but thought they'd wait for it to go up just a bit more.
