They already managed to get bipartisan support for sending weapons. It's only a small step to convince the public of the necessity of military action. All you'd have to do is vert slowly ratchet things up. Don't call it a war call it a "limited tactical operation".

I agree with this overall, but I also understand that all it would take is some false flag (or legit) strike on some random US naval vessel as an example which kills a few thousand sailors, and like the flip of a switch, you could trigger a massive war frenzy from many of the fence shitters.

A false flag with the proper news coverage could galvanize those that are indifferent.
I've seen aging hippie boomers, that were die hard pacifist hippies back in the day, fall in line. When all the media they're exposed to portrays opposition as socially shameful, those that have any reservation will withhold saying anything.
I do think though that overall it would be harder to convince the public than it was after something like 9/11. Public sentiment has swung far more isolationist on both the left and roght. Also wartime propaganda is less effective when people have livefeeds seeing the horrors of war directly, but I'm still willing to bet public opinion is malleable. Social media
is a far more powerful tool to shape punlic sentiment than anything state's in the past ever had.
