Time traveler with a time machine that shows all futures at once here, figured I'd give you guys the scoop on what happens today. CPI data comes out better or worse than expected, and the market reacts either positively or negatively to this data. There are also futures where CPI data comes out as expected and the market reacts mutedly to the data. The market may react positively, neutrally, or negatively to positive, neutral, or negative data, but this is not necessarily contingent upon the fact that that data outcome has the equivalent market reaction.

Just thought my frens at /smg/ should know.

currencies move for many reasons, but one of the big drivers for currencies is interest rates; in general the higher an interest rate is (unless it is high due to extreme risk reasons!) the more attractive that bond issue is - the more people want to buy that bond [would you rather buy a bond that is yielding 4%, or a bond that is yielding 5%, with the same risk?]
when interest rates rise, the demand for those bonds increases; in order to buy the bonds, they need to be purchased in its respective currency
so when US bond yields rise, the demand for dollars rises
when US bond yields fall, the demand for dollars fall
this is just one piece of a puzzle with many, many other pieces, such as foreign bond yields, economic activity domestic & international, trade, trade imbalances, expected growth, commodities, etc. all in conjunction
so to answer your question
>Why is USD still going down on FX markets after good CPI data?
yields fell sharply on CPI data, as the more that inflation cools, the less aggressive/hawkish the Fed will have to be raising interest rates further; as interest rates fall, the dollar falls
This is not a relationship that is guaranteed nor does it happen 100% of the time, but this is the basic gist

np - I realize that I forgot to mention that this is all relative to the other currencies, not in absolute terms
in other words, if there are more people wanting to sell their yen to buy dollars to buy higher yielding bonds, this is the driver to make the dollar go up
it doesn't just "go up" because of the higher yields - it is the action of people selling their respective currencies and buying dollars that makes it go up
but the reason for why they may sell their yen, sell their euros, is due to the interest rate differences
they will compare the US rates to bonds across the world, and money will flow buy/sell to the most attractive option

I've lost more than that. First time feels like a breakup. Try and learn from your losses. This will sound cliche and memey but you learn FAR more from your losses than your wins.

What did you do wrong? how can you have prevented it? How could you have taken less risk or smaller losses? Did you have an opportunity to close the position in profit? Which feelings and motivations caused you to take this position and not close it earlier? Why exactly did you open this position? etc etc

Sounds like bullshit but I guarantee you that you should ask yourself some really tough questions. And if you can't do that then you need to stop trading and focus on long term sage investments. Obviously whatever you did was very risky and probably leveraged.

Short the Shitcoin.

If you're too cowardly to do this directly by trading your shitcoins for Real Money™ (tickers: BTC/XMR) than do it indirectly by DCAing into SOXL/TQQQ/USD(the 2x semi ETF, not the statist shitcoin).

This current move is primarily about yield expectations and a carry trade gone wrong. The SPR release last year was effectively a massive manipulation of the foreign trade balance. The end result was mass delusion about the strength of the US dollar and our government's potential to pay out a real yield.

However, if the FedNOW program significantly improves settlement times, perhaps that'd be bearish long term since reduced friction on transactions decreases the amount of dollars people/companies are required to sit on in their instant access checking accounts.
I haven't really looked into it. In the end, the only real value that the US dollar has comes from the legal mandate to accept it as a currency of exchange, and through that it becomes a way to price assets such that taxes can be enforced on the "gains".
Any move closer to CBDC would further unveil the pointlessness of this whole system, the inflation tax, willful robbery of their own citizens.
