>People unironically go into debt to buy a car

Seriously what the fuck is wrong with you? I know multiple people who have done this.

It’s baffling to waste $20-$30K on a shitty car when you can buy a beater for a few grand. Even absolute shit boxes nowadays look ok since even old used cars are fairly modern.

Based take. Why wouldn't you go into debt for a depreciating asset? You can find a decent A to B car for even 5000.

I'm not sure if it's just my area but where I live they are OBSESSED with used luxury or sports cars, especially old Mercedes, dodge challengers, and charges. Which is absolutely brain dead because they are usually already pretty poor and they require lots of maintenance costs and higher insurance.

this "used car price crisis" has really highlighted how mentally fucking retarded normalniggers are.
>WWWAHHHHHH AN 8 YEAR OLD CIVIC WITH 188K MILES IS $15K!!!!!! I NEED A FINANCED CAR TO DRIVE 85 MILES ROUND TRIP TO MY $17.35/HOUR JOB!!!!!!
okay so just buy an older car that you can afford with cash. earlier generation mazda 3 are reliable and avoid the honda/toyota retard tax, can be had for $3-7k all day long depending on model year and miles. if something breaks, just fix it. you can buy a lot of spare parts with the money you save. also why the fuck are you driving so far for a shitty job that doesn't pay you enough money to afford a $15k car? buy a car you can afford and then get a better job.
>NOOO!!!!! NOO!!!! I CANT DO THAT!!!! IM GONNA TAKE OUT A LOAN TO GET THIS CAR!!!!! WAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

If you spend a lot of time in your car then wouldn't increasing its quality also increase your life satisfaction? Or is life so difficult that you need to ignore any nuances and focus entirely on quantifiable values in order to measure yourself to some threshold to feel superior to others with different values?

Also I drive an old cheap Lexus but I'm capable of empathizing with car enthusiasts

Buying a shit box with no mechanical skills can end up costing just as much in repair bills as a payment on a new econobox. And that's assuming you don't buy a real piece of garbage, for a risk adverse normie it's a safer bet.

no. >>55521012 is right. i admire parent who give their kids a (regular) car. for most that is what they are given so that is it. saves a lot of hassle and headaches

Why would someone sell a perfectly good used car? Why not just keep driving it? There will always be something horribly wrong - something the seller is hiding from you. You're taking a huge gamble by buying a used car.

Most people who buy new cars are not this. They are buying new cars to maintain a fictional status that nobody measures in the same way.

See above. People need new models to keep up with current treds. This applies to videogames, books, t.v, mobiles, clothes, tools diet, fashion, etc.

No thanks, I’ll keep my 1.5% loan on a 2020 Honda civic with no miles that I bought for 20k and will own for the next 20 years. “Depreciating asset” my ass. Kbb shows the same car is worth 30k now even with the extra miles I’ve put on it
