There's this ticker called ACMR and could someone clear something up for me regarding it?
>ACMR was founded in US in '98
>ACMR Shanghai was created in '08, it has its own ticker
>ACMR owns 82.5% of ACMR Shanghai stock
>ACMR is valued at 700 million USD while ACMR Shanghai (publicly traded on Shanghai stock exchange) is trading at 7 000 million
Subsidiary value isn't added to book value and there's a short seller report by J Capital from 2020 that suggested they have some extremely shady accounting practices. They also made some allegations that the technology used isn't as high tech as the firm alleges

So why is it popping off now?

Should I be doing minimum payments just in case they change their minds and implement forgiveness a different way and invest more in stonks, or should I pay my federal loans down aggressively within a year or two (30k total at around a 4.5% interest rate when averaged)

>> No.55458533

>>55458444
If credit debt or credit teaser rate is almost over then you pay that off ASAP. The market long term is 8% ± 2%. You'll never beat credit interest rate so pay it off.

You can also open up a new credit card with 12-18 months of 0% interest rate for credit balance transfers but understand that you're kicking a can down the road. Do it if you need to buy time but don't rely on it. And if you do go this route, DON'T GO CRAZY WITH CREDIT DEBT AGAIN.

LEAPS are a good strategy if you believe in a stock to continue running upwards in the future. Preferably, it is bought 6+ months out. I prefer getting them 1.5-2 years out.

The only drawback to them is if the market hits a sudden downturn. All of your premium could get wiped out. Yet, if you want to synthetically own your favorite stock on a deal then this is your best viable option. Just know when to close them either by straight up selling the contract before it hits 6 months before expiration or turning it into a spread and forgetting about it.

Now that you own those LEAPS contracts you can start selling covered calls to collect premium. Just know, you don't want those CC's to get exercised or you lose premium on your LEAPS. I would recommend to wait until your strike price + trade price is near the current price to start selling covered calls. Saves you from the heart ache or worrying about losing money unnecessarily. Also recommend for you to check out InTheMoney's YouTube channel on LEAPS. He covers them really well.

>In economics and finance, a Glownigger Market is said to occur when a country's financial policymakers begin manipulating econometric data for their political benefit. [1] This may be accompanied by organized propaganda campaigns, hidden monetary easing, as well as other forms of financial repression, in order to reinforce the illusion that a nation's troubled economy is sound and resilient. [2, 3] In a Glownigger Market, stocks may seem to rally, even irrationally so, in the face of worsening economic conditions. However, while the goal of a Glownigger Market is to either delay or prevent a politically undesireable financial correction from occurring, the policy actions that led to the Glownigger Market invariably increase the severity of the subsequent financial crisis. By attempting to overpower healthy corrective market forces, a Glownigger Market causes extreme capital misallocation that can turn a minor economic downturn into a severe and protracted economic depression. hi /smg/
I have gotten absolutely demolished with broad market index funds due to poor investing and not DCAing like I should. I am actually in the red for everything I've invested in (market ETFs) since 2021. Not in the red by a lot (just a couple hundo for investment north of 20k) but given the massive loss in opportunity cost its a very painful thing to look at.

So now I want to do something different and invest with a bit more risk and maybe even in international markets. I'm sort of interested in Japan and India. The passive ETF method did not work for me. Are any of you dudes investing in international markets? Is it worth getting into? I am looking at Japanese video game companies and Indian food exporters.
>japanese videogame companies have been doing really well. Capcom quintupled in value over the last five years. Seems like its risky to invest in because entertainment is the first to go when people are strapped for cash. But they have huge titles, massive investment in esports and generally don't put out games that are total garbage like the west

>Why do you think that Indian food export demand is going to go up because Indians are moving to Canada
Because the food they are buying is the snacks and stuff they want that they used to get back home. There are two aspects:
1) export of prepackaged foods to canada by those companies will increase
2) those companies invest in canada and they rent out factories here to make and package the food locally when it makes more financial sense to do so

In both scenarios this increases the profits of those companies. My entire office is filled with people with expired H1Bs. All they talk about outside of buying up property is stuff like this, where to shop for Indian food. Even the Walmarts and other big grocery stores have started carrying this stuff. My local walmart used to have a small aisle for international food but they had to make it bigger and add more stuff and 70+% of the stuff is indian. Its been steadily increasing in the 10 years I've lived here, but the last 3 years have been insane.

>>55460052
I 100% know what you're talking about since you're describing my family (parents always talk about which groceries to get indian food from).

I didn't know WMT was increasing its stock for indian products recently. Is that something that is location-specific? So for example WMTs in places with a large Indian population will have an Indian-dominant international aisle while WMTs in places with a large Chinese population will have a Chinese-dominant international aisle?

That does bolster the bull case for indian food exporters (more Indians living abroad).

FWIW the local grocery store near my place (India Cash & Carry) grows their produce locally - about 70 miles inland from me in the Central Valley of California.

But all of the pre-packaged foodstuffs and spices are obviously from Indian food manufacturers. This is all high-level speculation, would need to see the actual granular details for specific firms. And see what their order book looks like

WMT wagie from (((Ontario))) here.
Most stores will follow a template based on their location and size. For example, we have Cottage, Superstore, and something else. Even two stores in the same district will end up having very different products in stock, simply due to supply issues and floor space constraints. Usually featured products are universal in the region, but we've had certain stuff get advertised in the flier and 0 come in and customers getting annoyed (it does say not all items available in all regions).

So yes, I'm sure Home Office will consider local demographics both when choosing where to build a store, as well as setting the monthly floor plans and weekly deals. Right? No sense buying hundreds of Indian meals with a finite shelf life in a Chinese market. They might have some, but they'll focus on certain products.

The biggest thing to remember about WMT is that they are committed to EDLP (everyday low prices). As a shareholder - this is great. As staff, this sucks. It means shaving wages, and using economy of scale to increase their margins. For example, in 2018 they allegedly strongarmed Energizer into raising prices across the board, but giving WMT the lowest price (to fulfill their EDLP guarantee). I imagine there was an exclusivity deal here, because we don't carry Duracell in Canada anymore. Now there's a class action lawsuit, buy they probably got an extra 6 or 7 figures in profits over the last 5 years by doing it, enough that it will offset the cost of said lawsuit. They probably factored it into the cost of doing business.

Another thing is that WMT describes itself as a "tech-based customer fulfillment company". Eg, they use technology to automate things where possible, such as item ordering and price changes (shelf e-labels). It's always a clusterfuck, but we eventually find a balance that works at the store level.

Right now one of their strategies seems to be focusing on online growth. Eg, some things like TVs will be sold and shipped by Walmart online, but be $100 cheaper than in store. I think they want to wow shareholders to siphon positions from AMZN (we don't carry their Firestick in store, for example).

Canada accounts for a very small amount of their profit, the US is like 70-80% and also includes convenience stores and gas stations. I'm actually happy they're closing a handful stores in the US, nog mobs that steal tens of thousands at a time are not great for creating shareholder value. Theft is generally pretty high.

Not sure. I heard Mexico had a poor crop of red jalapenos this year, which affected the price of Sriracha sauce in the US ($70/bottle in some cases) due to supplier/production issues from China.
Biggest thing is to look at other vendors. If other vendors have it no problem, then it's a WMT issue, which means fleet/logistics or supplier contract issues. If one brand is out, then it's the manufacturer that's getting heemed. If there are just no frozen burritos in general, then it's probably a macro issue (eg input prices like oil and corn)

Oh yeah, our fresh food is kinda shit. If you go to like Loblaw's or Metro or basically any proper grocery store, their shit is always bountiful and fresh and good quality. We have lower prices on some food categories, but it's mostly due to us having lower grade fruits and veggies. Like we got a shipment of berries in and half of them moldered in like 3 days.

Some stuff we really do have good deals on, but certain goyslop is cheaper at like Shopper's Drug Mart or Giant Tiger.

>>55460203
Don't have access to that info, just guessing based on a few shitpost videos I've seen here. We have some software called Tableau that managers can use to look at store metrics, like margins, hot categories, etc, but I don't have access to it because it's limited to your job code

Actually, I'll talk about our shrink (losses). I can't remember what our budget was last year, but this year it was $970,000. We do inventory once a year and get a 3rd party in to audit the store, after we prep it. This was for paper shrink, which is unaccounted for stuff. Breakage and evidence of theft we can account for. Stuff that just leaves no trace, or things that "arrive" on a trailer but aren't actually here and not corrected, that adds up.

Our result for the last year (our fiscal year ends in January) was $944,000. We beat the budget by like 1.32%. Other stores had similar budgets but blew past it at like $1.9m in unaccounted losses. It's staggering. It feels like we are barely holding our store together and it's one of the better ones.

great posts, thanks for sharing. I frequent Walmarts in Toronto (GTA - Scarborough and Markham) and Ottawa. I've lived in Waterloo and London as well and seen similar changes. Slow additions of Indian food, typically some frozen shelf space, and a lot of space in international aisles for snacks and ready-made meals (pic related). ready-made meals they carry are like MREs and last for months so its probably very efficient if they move quickly.

Life-hack if you like the stuff -- its extremely cheap, usually $3/pack (good for one meal) and you just eat it with rice or bread and given how expensive food is these days it can be extremely convenient if you're a degenerate that doesn't cool like me.

It can be a combination of the supplier mislabeling something, damaged product not being marked down correctly, actual theft we don't catch, or shit not arriving. Even accounting for margin of error by the company (I'm not sure how the resolve numbers w/ the store onhands / managers), there were actually at least 3 stores in our district that fucked the budget.

... We can't actually ask to see receipts anymore. I'm not sure why. The only time we can do so is if they beep and offer to show it to us. We also have a homeless camp near our store. Electric toothbrushes are an extremely common target. They're like $100-200 and have good resale value apparently.

Oh and I heard that a trend is that Romanian gypsies will go to Toronto and live at a safehouse, and steal thousands from a store and give it to fences, and if they get caught they just get deported and the ringleader gets new people to do it again. Not just a WMT problem.
