LEAPS are a good strategy if you believe in a stock to continue running upwards in the future. Preferably, it is bought 6+ months out. I prefer getting them 1.5-2 years out.

The only drawback to them is if the market hits a sudden downturn. All of your premium could get wiped out. Yet, if you want to synthetically own your favorite stock on a deal then this is your best viable option. Just know when to close them either by straight up selling the contract before it hits 6 months before expiration or turning it into a spread and forgetting about it.

Now that you own those LEAPS contracts you can start selling covered calls to collect premium. Just know, you don't want those CC's to get exercised or you lose premium on your LEAPS. I would recommend to wait until your strike price + trade price is near the current price to start selling covered calls. Saves you from the heart ache or worrying about losing money unnecessarily. I have gotten absolutely demolished with broad market index funds due to poor investing and not DCAing like I should. I am actually in the red for everything I've invested in (market ETFs) since 2021. Not in the red by a lot (just a couple hundo for investment north of 20k) but given the massive loss in opportunity cost its a very painful thing to look at.

So now I want to do something different and invest with a bit more risk and maybe even in international markets. I'm sort of interested in Japan and India. The passive ETF method did not work for me. Are any of you dudes investing in international markets? Is it worth getting into? I am looking at Japanese video game companies and Indian food exporters.

Because the food they are buying is the snacks and stuff they want that they used to get back home. There are two aspects:
1) export of prepackaged foods to canada by those companies will increase
2) those companies invest in canada and they rent out factories here to make and package the food locally when it makes more financial sense to do so

In both scenarios this increases the profits of those companies. My entire office is filled with people with expired H1Bs. All they talk about outside of buying up property is stuff like this, where to shop for Indian food. Even the Walmarts and other big grocery stores have started carrying this stuff. My local walmart used to have a small aisle for international food but they had to make it bigger and add more stuff and 70+% of the stuff is indian. Even two stores in the same district will end up having very different products in stock, simply due to supply issues and floor space constraints. Usually featured products are universal in the region, but we've had certain stuff get advertised in the flier and 0 come in and customers getting annoyed (it does say not all items available in all regions).

So yes, I'm sure Home Office will consider local demographics both when choosing where to build a store, as well as setting the monthly floor plans and weekly deals. Right? No sense buying hundreds of Indian meals with a finite shelf life in a Chinese market. They might have some, but they'll focus on certain products.

The biggest thing to remember about WMT is that they are committed to EDLP (everyday low prices). As a shareholder - this is great. As staff, this sucks. It means shaving wages, and using economy of scale to increase their margins. Not sure. I heard Mexico had a poor crop of red jalapenos this year, which affected the price of Sriracha sauce in the US ($70/bottle in some cases) due to supplier/production issues from China.
Biggest thing is to look at other vendors. If other vendors have it no problem, then it's a WMT issue, which means fleet/logistics or supplier contract issues. Actually, I'll talk about our shrink (losses). I can't remember what our budget was last year, but this year it was $970,000. At least to me, IV is not a knowable quantity and serves to "fill in the blank" for Black-Scholes to make the rest of it work, based on known expiry date / market price etc.
You can go long directional exposure via delta/gamma, or short theta to earn money over time. You can also go long or short vega depending on your strategy (calendar spread or hedging). So it really depends

great posts, thanks for sharing. I frequent Walmarts in Toronto (GTA - Scarborough and Markham) and Ottawa. I've lived in Waterloo and London as well and seen similar changes. Slow additions of Indian food, typically some frozen shelf space, and a lot of space in international aisles for snacks and ready-made meals (pic related). ready-made meals they carry are like MREs and last for months so its probably very efficient if they move quickly.

Life-hack if you like the stuff -- its extremely cheap, usually $3/pack (good for one meal) and you just eat it with rice or bread and given how expensive food is these days it can be extremely convenient if you're a degenerate that doesn't cool like me.

I mean this already exists. Brampton, Ontario has an absolutely massive south asian population. The upsides are cheap and good food from that region if you like it. The downsides are its an insular cultural enclave, has really shady real estate shit going on, car insurance scams, bringing over of politics and problems from that part of the world and so on. It can be a combination of the supplier mislabeling something, damaged product not being marked down correctly, actual theft we don't catch, or shit not arriving. Even accounting for margin of error by the company (I'm not sure how the resolve numbers w/ the store onhands / managers), there were actually at least 3 stores in our district that fucked the budget.

... We can't actually ask to see receipts anymore. I'm not sure why. The only time we can do so is if they beep and offer to show it to us. We also have a homeless camp near our store.
