I fucking hate charity muggers. I see them every fucking day. People are starting to get smart to their tactics, so they've been dialing up the pressure recently.

You should always ask them, loudly, how much of your donation goes to the charitable cause and then ask for proof of whatever they claim.
If they do not know, or fail to provide proof, then you accuse them of being conmen relying on emotional extortion.
Make yourself an obstacle and they will begin to avoid you.

The day you realise that 'not for profit' doesn't cover the salaries of the people running the gig is the day you begin to wake up to the charity con. They have to make their accounts publicly available and if you look at the books of shit like the NSPCC (a fucking grift who run some phonelines with 'experts' on the end) its a shock to see how much they pay themselves. Plus they don't have to provide any proof of the amazing work they do due to 'client confidentiality'). Some are better than others but little of the dosh raised achieves anything other than lining pockets

TLDR

Just walk by and don't acknowledge them. Every time a self-checkout system asks me to donate $1 to children with cancer, I say no.

Just remember that the vast majority of these charities are scams. Either write out a personal check to St. Jude, Shriner's Children Hospital (both of which don't charge the families for medical care), or an individual family that needs the help.

I'm completely aware of these type of tactics people use to try and get money out of you, and yet every single time I live it in real life I fall for it.
I ordered food at burger king and they upselled me and I fell for it, it's like whenever I get a suggestion like that I think to myself that there's no way I'm making a bad choice. I can't even use the excuse to say that I'm stupid because I know these things, but it still happens.
