TA is a meme in all trading, because markets move, at least in part, in response to a steady inflow of developing events and new information,. which TA by nature can't possibly account for. TA can "work" sometimes, simply because widespread use of TA, especially in algorithmic trading, makes it self-fulfilling, thus upholding the illusion, which persists due to an intense desire on the part of market participants to believe that markets can be reliably predicted. But like any other type of market forecasting, it ultimately fails because markets are, in reality, purely chaotic systems that move based on an enormously-complicated interlocking system of moving parts that shift in response to unknowable factors.
